    hi everyone. i thought id write a short guide on how to get that done. i remember having a lot of trouble around october and a lot of digging around finally got me happy with my diamond and iskoot.

    i wanted a device that would have iskoot, bluetooth to use on the car stereo
    as well as music and gps while driving. and the diamond seemed to be the one (my old trinity wouldnt connect to 3 network).

    therefore this does not use data settings but free skype to skype calls if you top up by 10 euros every month

    i had an issue with my older diamond where i could not scroll down or up contacts once id rung or had a chat with someone on the diamond but my 2nd diamond doesnt seem to have this problem. i think iskoot might have updated their client as i had asked about it on their forums.

    anyway,

    1. download the iskoot client. ive attached it here for conveniency as iskoot.com are difficult to work around.

    2. Download a registry editor for windows mobile - your own or the one attached here.

    3. Install both. Run iskoot once at least (As it will create some registry entries).

    4. You can try signing in with skype but it wont work.

    5. Make sure you have installed all 3 mobile settings. most pocket pc's would have installed them, but they are at the bottom of the post if you need them.

    6. Run The registry editor.

    7. Make your way to:

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\iSkoot\Skype\Device]

    and change:

    "CallNumber"="+353833333518"

    then to

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\iSkoot\Skype\Device]

    make sure those are in:

    "BackupHost"="http://mobile.3ireland.ie/948"
    "BaseUrl"="http://mobile.3ireland.ie/948"
    "CallUrl"="http://mobile.3ireland.ie/948"
    "DefaultSkHost"="http://mobile.3ireland.ie/948"
    "PushHost"="http://mobile.3ireland.ie/948"

    save and make sure to exit both iskoot and registry editor then starting again. it should work fine if you have 3g signal and you can configure your settings in iskoot as you please.

    3 Planet settings:

    as in other helpful posts on this forum:

    set your opera/internet explorer/whatever browser homepage to be:

    http://mobile.3ireland.ie/hb/HutchKey

    this will bring you to my3 page where you can check balance etc

    Nice tutorial.

    I managed to get my Trinity working no probs. The only changes from your setting are, that I put 353833333510 number as iSkoot number (found it two days before your tut ;)) but the aplication changes it to 353833333514 anyway.

    Anybody running iskoot on an N95 ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,999 ✭✭✭Spipov

    not aware of that. it should work, but i dont know how to work the registry keys in s60 devices. dont have one either.. besides, 3 provides a client for s60 thats up to date i think

    Hi Spipov

    first of all: thanks a mil for your guide

    I have an issue (that somebody has already found in the whirlpool aussie forum): after I set all the registry values I try to connect to iSkoot and I retrieve the message "Currently unable to connect"

    I checked the registry and I found out that the baseurl, that I originally set up as http://mobile.3ireland.ie/948 has now changed to a server .co.uk

    everytime I open iSkoot the baseurl changes to a different .co.uk server, and it never maintains the http://mobile.3ireland.ie/948 address that I've inserted as per your guide.

    the answer in the aussie whirlpool forum was: everytime you connect it goes to a different server, so try various times and good luck, but I've been trying for a couple of hours now and no luck. besides: why does it connect to a .co.uk server and not to a .ie one?

    I am trying with an HTC Touch Cruise with WM6 professional

    has it happened to anybody?

    thanks a mil in advance for the answer

    Hi Bugbear,
    yeah, it is changing server on my phone each time but it connects without any problems. try to change the back to original value, restart phone and see what would happen

    Hi docentore

    thanks a mil for the answer. first of all a clarification: when U say the original value, you mean the server that iskoot put as default when I installed it (something like gw1.iskoot.com) or the server indicated in the guide? my question, in fact, is: if, for any reason, the server changes everytime I connect it...should I just leave the baseurl alone when I hack the registry?

    I'm still stuck and I almost ate all my 3 air minutes: thanks a mil to you and spipov for the help anyway

    Hi,

    no I mean the values given by Spipov. I did it once with those values and it works, but I notices that they can be changed every time I'm using iSkoop.

    Hopes that will clarify little bit

    there are 2 possible reasons:

    1. are you in 3g coverage? as in can u connect 3 g or it connects normal gprs

    if the latter, thats why

    2. check you have entered your username and password correctly

    3. make sure you topped up with the 10 euros in the last 30 days

    Cheers

    are you on 3pay or bill pay? If your on 3pay make sure you have topped up by 10e in the last 30 days. Also make sure you have am access point called '3' what version of skype are you trying to use?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,999 ✭✭✭Spipov

    i got it sorted. the reason was i was using an e51 that was on vodafone firmware even though unlocked. i unbranded it and updated the firmware and its all working perfectly well.

    if anybody wants me to post a walkthrough for s60 devices, id be happy to do so.

    also for msn messenger on 3 as well. both working flawlessly. the reception on e51 is fantastic. 10x better than my touch diamond :(

    Hi Spipov
    I would love a walkthrough on the s60 Nokia 6120 on3. When I use planet 3 and try to download skype v2.00(26) I just get an error message as it tries to download.
    Any help greatly appreciated

    Just wondering is this tutorial specifcally so that you can use skype for free with Three? or will any skype program 'register' that its free (if you know what i mean)

    Im trying to say that:

    If I install a skype program on my htc touch hd, will auto work with the free three skype thing or do I have to do something special like this tutorial?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,999 ✭✭✭Spipov

    deaddude, itll have to be as with this programme. as you can see, you need to tweak with the registry settings so it connects to the three server.

    i am not aware of being able to do that with the full skype programme.

    ill try and post a nokia s60 walkthrough for three and iskoot/skype this weekend.

    Are you connected to some WLAN at the same time by any chance? If yes - disable it, it has to be three 3g connection only

    make sure you are topped up by 10 euros, the number is correct and you have 3g signal.

    Thanks for the guide, I'm having trouble with the "PushHost" setting, do I have to create it as a new entry or do i have to modify "ispushenabled"? It is currently set to 'N'.

    Update;

    Sorted it, created new string.

    for those who have touch screen windows mobile phones, please use the file below.

    in my first post, the cab given is for non touch phones and will not use the full functionality, indeed on the touch hd, with no dpad, it doesnt work.

    i found this file while trawling around and could have kicked myself. but the iskoot site didnt easily give this file

    enjoy. its the same setup to get it working on 3 as the first post.

    good luck

    The first one that you posted works fine on a Diamond touchscreen.
    Is this version much different?

    my bad. its the same one. i was under the impression i posted the standard version instead of the pro version as the standard was the only version i could find on my hdd.

    carry on from the 1st post!

    Hi, I tried 3 times to use this setting on my Pro2 HTC, and it didn't want to log in once changed.
    I configured the regedit as said, (didn't find the pushhost key by the way) but when restarting my Iskoot, It doesn't connect and put Currently unable to connect.
    It's connected to 3g, My3 page works, Skype by Wifi as well, but can't use Skype by 3. I used back my old nokia and could use skype. It's coming from one of the setting or maybe not compatible with the HTC Pro2 :(
    Any advices??
    Thanks
    Regards
    Olivier

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,999 ✭✭✭Spipov

    i dont think its due to the fact that its the pro2.

    as you've outlined, you are connected to 3g, and not 2g mode (mostly if u have the H on top thats fine),
    you are topped up properly to use the skype service as you've tried the nokia phone and this works,

    ur settings are ok as you can see planet 3.

    are your username and password ok case-sensitve wise? when iskoot doesnt connect, it asks you to retype the whole lot which is a pain in the a+rse.

    if all fails, exit the program, leave it some time and try again later. it should work. ive tried it on so many different devices and they all work, to my surprise, so im not too sure what could be happening in ur case apart from the above

    I know that if you use their client, on their phone and fall within certain top-up rules etc, broadly speaking, Skype is virtually free.

    I already asked a question and apparently this does not work with a non-3-native client because of the way 3 sign the app etc "tipping off" the network that it's a 3 client.

    So, how much of your data allowance would Skype use eat into?

    Any real-world scenarios?

    Thanks!

    From unscientific tests a friend and I carried out, about 800/1000 minutes for 1 Gb using the skype client.
