Seems grand. Only I would get something a bit closer to 2x2GB sticks (or a 1x2gb stick - nevermind the dualchannel malarky), and get a 64-bit Operating System. Then later that opens you up to double/triple your ram to 8gb, and if you should keep the machine so long, trade the tri-core for a quadcore or morecore depending on how long the am2 socket is fashionable. Your games will run fine on 64-bit.

I've been out of this scene for some time so I am open to being corrected but my understanding is that unless you have a 64bit os you will not see all of that 4gb of ram. The value of what you will see will be dependent on other components in your system but in the 3Gb region?

With regards to the graphics card then the 8600GT was a mid range graphics card at the time and is not as powerful as you might think. What you would need to run fallout3 on high quality though will depend on the resolution you typically play at so futher input is required here.

In addition to this my understanding is that generally amd is not the way to go these days and you'd be better off with a intel core duo setup coupled perhaps with an ati 4850 gfx card.

What's your budget. Telling us will get you a good PC. 64bit XP will see all 4GB's. 32bit XP won't. Think it'll only see 2GB or 3GB.

Im getting pretty big into PC gaming. for christmas i got Left 4 Dead and Fallout 3. L4D runs fine but Fallout 3 lags horribly unless i put everything on low, which looks like a PS2 game. I already have 2 GBs of RAM. Aswell as a Geforce 8600GT graphics card which(i think) is enough for Fallout 3 to be run at high graphics, so its really the processor thats slowing it down.

I really want to know wether or not these are all compatible and will be able to do what i want, also, what framerate wud u guess id get on Fallout 3?

    Any help/advice is appreciated.

You can upgrade all you want, that graphics card is bad and will not run any new games at decent fps.

Do not buy from OCUK they are overpriced and will charge you 21 percent vat at checkout

How much do you have to spend and what is exactly your current system?

Yeah ditch ocuk and get a good card.

Amd are getting good again, but if money is tight and you want performance go Intel.

Some boards can be finicky and some times dont boot/overclock well with two different brands of ram, so your better off getting 4gbs of the same brand to avoid that.

E5200, 4gb, 4830 is a great pc for sub 24", both the cpu and video card overclock brillantly.

What psu are you intending to run this on?
