Does anyone know what the rule is in the above situation? Should you just 'play away' not allowing the cue ball to hit anything or can you go for a colour?

    Thanks in advance

Play away from the red and play to hit a colour.

Its not a choice as such, you must still go for a colour.

When you go for the colour when the white is touching a red there can be no foul drawn. Just one of those strange snooker situations that are kinda overlooked.

Unless you miss the colour you intended to hit...

Or do anything that would normally be considered a foul really.
