Seeing as we're halfway through the league campaign now, what players have impressed you the most thus far? Here would be my line-up:

    Given

    Bosingwa
    Laursen
    Vidic
    Lescott---

    Geovanni
    Ireland
    Gerrard
    Riera----

    Anelka
    Agbonlahor

    Subs:

    Schwarzer
    Johnson
    Carragher
    Carrick
    Delap
    Zaki
    Van Persie

I would say Ireland ought to be a cert as he's been consistently great, though I'm not sure there are too many others. You could probably make a case for a lot of players I've overlooked. Perhaps the likes of Robinho or Alonso. Maybe Defoe.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

I think you must be drunk Mr Nice Guy, how could you have Riera in there and no sign of Ashley Young in your team?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,999 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

    Reina
    Bosingwa
    Laursen
    Vidic
    Evra

    Barry

    Ireland
    Lampard
    Young

    Rooney
    Agbonlahor

There is only one place I had to think of, and to be fair you could have Dirk Kuyt in there for me as well instead of either of the forwards.

Easy, because Riera has been more consistent than Young. Why did you go with Cole?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,951 ✭✭✭DSB

Neither Riera or Cole have been anything on Young to be fair.

    Mihill

    Bosingwa----Laursen---Carragher----Lescott

    Robinho
    Mikel
    Ireland
    Young
    Geovanni

    Anelka

Turnbull was a very close second to Mihill and if there were more of a heading threat in the team Delap would be ahead of Ireland

    Reina

    Bosingwa ... Carragher .. Laursen .. Evra

Ireland .. Robinho.. Lampard .. Young

    Agbonglohor ... Adeboyar

midfield's a wee bit attacking along with half the defense

Alonso has definitely been Liverpool's best player so far this season IMO, just saying.

Anyhow, with a different formation and a bit of bias:

    Reina
    Bosingwa----Laursen
    Carragher---A Cole
    Alonso

    Ireland
    Gerrard
    Geovanni
    Young
    Anelka

    Laursen----Hangeland
    Lescott

    Alonso

    Ireland
    Bullard

    Young
    Robinho

    Anelka

Subs: Myhill, Arbeloa, Vidic, Lampard, Gerrard, Agbonlahor, Malbranque

I mixed up the Ashleys when I was putting up the team, edited to put in Mr Ashley Young.:)

I thought Riera has a good start but I don't like him over the last while. He seems to be coming in to the centre and he is not as effective when he does. Young for me has been the most outstanding player in the Premier League this season.

Lescott shouldnt be anywhere near any teams of the season for this year. He has been well below par in the majority of Everton's games

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,584 ✭✭✭mormank

ok i was beaten to it but im gonna say it anyway. lescott shouldnt be anywhere near a team of the half season. been poor by his own standards which he set last season. surely clichy has been the best left back so far.

do think its time to joleon back in for fantasy footie tho..

Lets be honest here, Riera hasnt set the premiership alight. Probably the best winger Liverpool had in a while and had a great game against United along with maybe 2 or 3 other decent perfromances...

Having said that, I did struggle for a LM and ended up putting Ireland out there.

Mikel and Jimmy Bullard have been decent this year and ran Carrick close for the CM spot

One of either Sebestain Bassong or Fabricio Collocini needs to get into the CB slot, certainly ahead of Own Goal Carragher. Both have been beasts for us this season, and part of the reason why our defence is no longer our achilies heel.

I don't know how you could struggle to find a left winger. Ashley Young has 5 goals and 6 assists this season.

At least you don't have Reira in there, like most Liverpool fans.

    Cech

    Boswinga
    Terry
    Ferdinand
    Cole/Evra

    Ireland (6 goals/7assist)
    Lampard(6 goals/4 assist)
    ---Ronaldo (8 goals/3 assists)
    Young (5 goals/6 assists)--
    Agbonlahor(9 goals/5 assist)
    Anelka (14 goals/ 1 assist)

Chelsea and United defenders for me, Chelsea have concedded 7! United 10, with Ferdinand by far the best.

Tough choice between Lampard and Gerrard, but Gerrard got a similar goal and assist haul from being much further up the pitch, so as a central midfielder, I'd put Lampard ahead of him. Yet as a striker, I think Villa have been a two man outstanding attack this year, so Agbonlahor.

Ronaldo is a controversial chioce I think considering his current form, but in that brief spell after he returned, when he was top quality, he knocked up more goals than most have all season, so I can't leave him out.

    Anelka has been outstanding.

I have a lot of time for him but he would need to improve x2 to get near the team of the season.

No Alonso... madness. Ferdinand hasn't been nearly as good this year as last imo. Gerrards overall play has been better than Lampards and he's actually played as an orthodox midfielder a lot this season. I wouldn't have Ronaldo on there to be honest but I can't think who i'd have in ahead of him to be fair.

the best team in England so far this year cant get a single player into your team? strange

Ferdinand has been quite error prone this year, something he'd gotten out of his game last year, the Everton game when he was all over the shop springs to mind.

the problem is a lot of people are picking based on FF points or goals/assists therefore some players (usually DM) like Alonso have been omitted from teams despite being fantastic all season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,067 ✭✭✭✭Tusky

How anyone can not include Alonso is baffling. I can only assume that yea havent been watching Liverpool this season. He has barely had one bad performance in my opinion. He really has been outstanding and is the main reason that Liverpool are where they are at the moment.

Also, in regards to the Lampard v Gerrard debate. Gerrard has 13 in all comps, Lampard has 8.

    Reina

    Bosingwa

    Alonso

    Ireland -- Gerrard ----
    Geovanni
    Young
    Agbonlahor

Ireland + Alonso the 2 standout CMs and Gerrard sneaking in there too. Paintsil + Turner have been absolute monsters for their respective clubs' ascent up the table with a good few clean sheets. Goals and Assists from Agbonlahor and Young. Geovanni with some crucial goals.

Wasn't too sure about LB but Cole seems to have been the most solid and reliable.
