Some peculiar brushes for sale, Ali, the owner, will generally have the final say on what's for sale or not, I have had confusing answers from the rest of the staff. (friendly staff though)

After a bit of research I've taken a step back from my 34C, ordered a 23C last night. From what I've read it seems to be a the best "transitional" DE with the longer slimmer handle making it more akin to the Sensor I've used all these years. Hopefully get to grips with that and maybe upgrade to the 38C at some stage. So I guess this means I have RAD. :o

Did you ever contemplate a MÜHLE?

Ah no. There goes next weeks wages.

    Thanks (I think) Amalgam :)

Here's direct links to their 'classic', straight handled safety razors.

Their shop is a tad confusing to navigate, the safety razors are now hidden away.. for shame.

They have a reputation for being milder than the Merkur. I saw an R 41 up at Knights, here in Dublin, St Stephens Green Shopping Center. Going back months though. Close to 40 euro mind you.

I'd like to try their open comb. If I stumble across one, I have a feeling an impulse buy will take place soon after..

Nearly forgot, the Grooming Rooms would stock them too, pay them a visit. Not sure of the pricing though.

Any reasonably priced bricks'n'mortar places around Dublin that stock the Merkurs? Really wanna get myself a progress rather than the cheap but cheerful W&S 'Classic' that I've been using up till now!

Knights On the Green carry a few Merkurs, don't know if they will have the Progress though. Online is your best bet.

You could also try the Waldorf on Westmoreland St.

Cheesy as hell, but the link caught my eye, pity about the writing on it.

Nice price on the Stahly, with the post and packing included.

[Basil Fawlty]The riff raff on adverts.ie won't appreciate them, but what can you do?[/Basil Fawlty]

    Philistines ;)

It's a mad thing to shave with. You think you're gonna cut your head off with this buzzy vibrating yoke but if you move it very slowly across your face the slicing action works and it does give you a close shave. Just don't do what I did initially and hold it at the bottom of the handle like you would a Merkur HD as the rest of the razor rotates due to the clockwork action.

Fajitas! What brand brush is that?

    Nice pics indeed.

The long handled Progress is a normal Merkur product for 2009..

Not everywhere stocks it. I can't say I noticed it before now. I thought it was a hand bodged mutant.

This retailer suggests it is a relatively new product.

It's worth pointing out that Knights, the Dublin Barber group, have an online shop.

    Main site: http://www.knights-barbers.com/

    Shop: http://www.knightsshavingshop.com/

They sell the open comb and closed comb MÜHLE, for the same price as the MÜHLE website.

Hopefully an open comb will be mine by the end of the week..

    Hi All
Was in a health food store back in Wexico a few weeks back and picked this set up
    DSCF4084.jpg
A pretty good brush too, artificial bristle but nice and firm, holds its shape and whips up a lovely creamy lather is no time at all. Bowl is nice too, just the right size to fit in yer palm. Total cost was 14 quid.
I think its nice anyway, something different

Hey all, had my first DE shave today...I'm converted! :D

Colleague of mine is a straight blade shaver, and we were talking recently about it and I found myself intrigued. Plan to move on to straight blade shaving some day. Went for a hot towel shave in Fat Tony's in Galway two weeks ago and was the closest shave of my life! Well impressed!

So I was over in Boston last week and saw a The Art of Shaving Sandalwood kit in Sephora, said I'd get it and see what it was like. $100 for Pre-Shave Oil, Shave Cream and Post-Shave Balm. Comes with a badger bristle brush too. Bit expensive but boy was it worth it! :P

    Linky here

Got my hands on a Merkur 41 from irishbarber.com with 20 Merkur blades. Watched a few of the vids on youtube, and did some reading here and off I went.

Already on ebay, 4men and irishbarber again tonight, ended up buying a brush stand, bowl, shaving mug, alum block...have the bug already methinks! :pac: Thinking of sticking with The Art of Shaving stuff, my skin is normally very sensitive to shaving but their stuff seems to be perfect, nice feel and smell to the Sandalwood too. Costly to get it shipped here though so thinking of getting friends/family to bring stuff home with them whenever they go to the States.

Can't see myself ever going back to cartridges! Long live the DE! :D

AOS have their own shop/salon in Boston which is worth checking out next time you visit. It's in the Copley Mall near the Copley Marriott hotel. Very often they have a barber there, and if you spend $50 or more you get a free shave with a straight razor, using their products. I've had a couple there and it's really really good :D

I was gonna give DE shaving a go, but then found that I have 2 packs of cartridge blades left (Gillette Sensor Excel).
I think I'll wait til these are gone and then give it a go. :)

Nowt wrong with Gillette Sensor Excel. Two blades are fine to use better than 3,4 or 5 blades.

Aye, I discovered that a few years ago. I tried all the other multiblade ones out there and found them to be awful. This one seemed good, it was a simple razor and the blades were cheap. I picked up a several boxes of 10 blades last year in Germany for next to nothing. :)

Hey Dord, I have a gillette gold tech razor that was given to me a while back that I never use. It's not in collectible condition or anything but it still works perfectly. You're more than wecome to it as I was just gonna chuck it out anyway. It looks like this one below. PM me if you want

Heh, puts up hand meekly.. If Dord doesn't take it, I'll gladly use it. I love the look of the handle on these.

The picture above isn't the actual razor that I have it's just a pic from google. The laquer on my one has peeled off in several places so cleaning has no effect. The only thing that would bring it back to its former glory would be a new coat of laquer.

Are they bottom heavy, or is the handle hollow?
