Should I have gotten charged for this?

In July I went to the dentist for the first time in roughly 10 years. I went to my mums dentist as she recommended him, and got an oral x-ray and oral examination (took roughly 15 mins overall). At the time I had been in full time employment for about 22 months, paying the stamp/PRSI.

I had also been paying it during my part time job for quite a while during college. I was told I was not entitled to a free visit, and forked out €100 then and there.

Should me paying PRSI over such a period not have covered this? I know I have left it a little late to query this, but I came across my receipt for it the other day and got a little pissed off.

    Any info appreciated!

Fizman, it is easy to find out if you were qualified, just ring the Dept of Social Welfare benefits section in Letterkenny, give them your PRSI number and they will be able to advise you if you were qualified. You have to be paying a certain type of stamp for at least two years up to age 25 and 5 years if you are older. If you were in part time employment while a student you were unlikely to have paid enough stamps. Did you give your PRSI number to the dentist at the time and request that he/she check it, remember the onus is on the patient to inform the dentist if they think they are entitled to benefit and to provide all relevant information (prsi no, address,d.o.b eyc) at the time of treatment. we cannot access this information from anywhere else.
