Hi paul, i have reread the posts aas you requested and i don't seem to see anything wrong with them, if you would like pat to take a look at them aswell by all means do, but it isn't an attack on your specific casino, just casino's in general. But by all means as i said myself, ask pat to have a look.

Also with regard to my post, i do apologise if it seems like i am attacking you and at the end of the day i know you are only trying to earn a living but I have experience with friends getting over their heads in such establishments and they didn't have the benefit of staff telling them when to stop. Can i ask you if a man raids his family savings and brings in cash leaving his family broken, how can you regulate if he is over his head.

*( pat this is no doubt gonna head off topic so act appropriately and treat me as a poster in this one.)

this is my point exactly. you do not exactly ask where the funds came from and ask for receipts on entry, do you?

by all means you do have an entitlement to make a living, and a casino is a fine of going about it. still would like to see your "self exclusion" policy and protection against getting over your head, in action, please?

Yeh by all means do, but not in this thread....

Im surprised at another Paddy Powers opening. I would have thought that most bookies would be closing / consolidating their store count these days.

Regarding casinos, there certainly is a lot of them around the county. I have heard of some of them being make shift casinos where Im sure people do get themselves into trouble.

Having a respectable casino is no bad thing, it adds variety to Carlow, and the number of people it can attract means there is certainly a need for it in Carlow.

On the Paddy Powers point, I expressed the exact same sentiment myself, but seemingly gambling becomes more popular in a recession. More people wanting to make a quick buck. So following on from that is the National Lottery going to become more popular also.

The only two casinos I can think of, the first one just up from Cosmo Browns and the new one that opened where JVC Video used to be (wouldn't you know that I have lived in Carlow for years).

Oh and the 24/7 video/dvd place has closed too, don't know how long, noticed it there a while back.

And the electronics shop in Superquinn shopping centre is definitely gone now too.

I used Crotty's bakery for the first time the other day - wasn't overly impressed or unimpressed tbh.

Just a suggestion, but would you consider extracting the casino related posts into a new thread for discussion of the Carlow casino? It would clean up this thread and still offer people the chance to debate.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,456 ✭✭✭stick-dan

To be honest shay i think it would be better discussed as a topic in the gamling forum as none of us have a problem with the casino in carlow, just the betting franchise in general. We are not on a witch hunt for this one business in carlow, well i'm not anyway and i would like tio make that abruptly clear.

thanks for the suggestion Shay, but as i said and Dan re-iterated, if anyone wants to discuss gamblin the gambling forum on boards here is accesible to everyone.

    cheers though

There is also a casino over the Roadhouse?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,181 ✭✭✭aynon

well i think its more directly over the bookies beside it, to the right of the bookies is a door that leads up a stairs, in side that door is also a neon sign that flashes and is seen for miles.

That's where the Atlantis was before it took over the Big Slick premises on Charlotte st.

Will it have an alt/metal section? That would be nice.

Good to have another music shop replacing Golden Discs. Would be a bit crap if Roxy was the only option.
I'll have a look in during the week.

I'd imagine it would, also he is providing a download service in the shop(legally) for those songs that are hard to come by

Thats actually a great idea and one that is pretty obvious when you think about it. Hopefully it has a good selection because in Carlow it is hard to come by although I reckon most places outside Dublin have the same problem.

Had a look in Empire. Was a little disappointed that there was no discernible difference from Golden Discs. Maybe it's just a bedding in period and they'll be getting new stock in soon.

Gillespies got bought by Telfords then by chadwicks

i was reading some of these some people really dont have clu, B&Q/ homebase english companys that import nearly 70% of stock from the english wearhouse then charge 50% to 90% more. even thow its only around 25% to 35% more expencive to run a bussines in ireland.
all there money gos back to england.

Woodies, Atlantic, 4homes, are 100% irish owned company. all there money goes back into irish banks, they all use bank of ireland.
woodies, Atlantic buy in about 60% from irish companys.keeping irish jobs going.
woodies in the space of 6 years the opened 15 stores making about 500 jobs just in woodies not counting all the extra job in other companys. they become to big to quickly to cope some stores went **** like CARLOW NEWBRIDGE and a few others. woodies have spent the last year fixing this problem. in November 50 managers were let go and 7 store managers in Feb'

i have been in and out of the shop for the last 2 months it looks a lot better.

the staff are on more than Minimum Wage. if they were on minimum wages there would be more working there.

the lads in woodies do the best they can.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,181 ✭✭✭aynon

and the business in woodies has proved itself, now most of the staff are lucky to be on 4 day weeks atm, at least the likes of homebase employ and give you a good steady wage and job security, all the "100% irish owned" companies are going through a rough times atm as most loans are getting called in atm. homebase/b&q dont actually have any loans.

not saying we should buy british. but the 100% irish owned are just that 100% irish so dont have the security of a multi national if ireland goes tits up they go tits up. at least if you work for a british company you have that super power strenght of an economy behind you. and imo and woodies could do with a staffing attitude overhaul.
