Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wifi Hifi

I'm looking to upgrade my mini hifi and combine the features of the other audio devices I have if possible (a DAB radio and a Wifi radio/streamer).

I've found the Philips Streamium range and it looks quite good - the WACS7000 looks lovely but at €500+ it's maybe a bit more than I'd like to spend. Their MCI300 looks a little bit more reasonable.

Has anyone any experience with either of these devices? One thing I'd like to know is can it stream music from a HDD on the network without the PC being on. I'm hoping to move to a set up where my media is all on a NAS device so I can access it on the likes of my Xbox 360 even when my PC is off... hoping something like the Streamium can do the same.

Can anyone recommend any other devices similar to this? What I want is something with a CD player, FM radio (DAB too if possible but not essential), a USB port for attaching a PMP and WiFi for streaming from my computer and listening to WiFi Radio.

Would also need some kind of audio-in connection so I can attach my turntable but I'm guessing that's pretty standard no matter where you look,

Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated.

    Hi Guys,

I have seen a hi fi unit like this due to be launched but its expensive.
Sonneteer Morpheus, Reciva internet radio,100w digital amplifier, intelligent streamer locator, lan + wi fi, has standard audio inputs too.
Motion sensor ,usb , sd card, etc etc
Transmits full banwidth hi fi quality. Hi end stuff approx €2,650

Check out the Sonos system. It's wifi based (or wired) and can stream music from a NAS device. It also handles Internet radio, and each unit has RCA in connections to allow connection of a turntable, CD player etc. You can connect these to any of the units, and the system can stream it to any other location on the network. Not cheap though, but much cheaper if you have an iPhone or iTouch which you can use as a hand held controller.

I've been looking for a micro hifi with DAB as well. Unfourtunatly our options in Ireland seem to be a bit limited as:
Amazon and most of the sellers on it do not deliver to Ireland.
Pixmania.ie does not list the DAB version of the micro hifis it had on Pixmania.co.uk.
Although argos.ie lists most of the DAB sets that it has on its British counterpart, it charges daft prices in comparison the sterling prices on its sister web site
Comwales.com deliver to Ireland (£25) but don't seem to list anything with DAB.
Superfi.co.uk deliver to Ireland (£30) but don't have that great a range of micro hifis - tends to be the more expensive stuff.

So if you come across any British web sites with a good range of AV gear, that deliver to Ireland please give them a mention here.

My favourite set at the moment is the LG FA163DAB. See a review on the register & What-Hifi:

    http://whathifi.com/Review/LG-FA163DAB/

If you pluged an ipod touch into the integrated dock, you could stream internet radio that way.

    Videos of the FA163DAB:
http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/1520244/art/lg/fa163-cd-mp3-usb-ipod-mic.html (non DAD version, just click on VIDEO button under the pic)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrn842zEjoE (there's an option to watch in HQ - titled FB163, but it is the FA163DAB)

Powercity.ie have it in stock on its web site for €239:

Not a bad price but if I wait a few weeks, I think I'll be able to get it delivered from the UK for under €200 depending on what happens with the currencies.
