Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Ah come on now.

Unless Ferguson sticks out a totally changed, Carling Cup-alike team, Southampton won't pose much problems to Manchester.

I know they were a bogey team a few years ago, but this claim is ludicrous.

Best day/weekend of the footballing season for me.

^^^^also Droylsden were thrown out yesterday so it's actually Ipswich v Chesterfield AFAIK

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

also Droylsden were thrown out yesterday

    why?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,910 ✭✭✭thusspakeblixa

    Agreed
Sure aren't Southampton near the bottom of the Championship now with that Dutch fella in charge?
Then again... United did lose to Southend last year in the Carling Cup...
I'm backing Preston to take Liverpool to a replay.
Maybe Barnsley to beat West Ham.

    Fielding an ineligible player.

They beat Chesterfield 2-1 and the player who scored both of their goals was actually suspended for 5 yellows in the league IIRC

Southgate out if we don't beat Barrow.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,661 ✭✭✭✭Helix

id like an fa cup run for a change, but i think we should be looking at fielding reserve teams this season

the uefa cup team should be able to handle most non prem teams... i hope, so a nice draw for a change might see us in the last 16 or so without using too many first teamers

uefa and league have to take priority tho imo

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,910 ✭✭✭thusspakeblixa

    Barrow to beat Middlesborough, anyone?
This season needs a new Havant and Waterlooville

Spurs vs Wigan kicks off soon, so strange to have an FA Cup 3rd round tie on a Friday night.

    Spurs team:

Gomes, Corluka, Woodgate, Dawson, Bale, Bentley, Zokora, O'Hara, Modric, Bent, Pav

Subs: Alnwick, Lennon, Ghaly, Gunter, Campbell, Taarabt, Boateng

Zaki and Heskey missing for Wigan. Spurs should win this tie, but the current form hasn't been great.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,685 ✭✭✭Tom65

English football on a Friday is a new one. Seen as I'm staying in tonight, I'm very much in favour of it.

I think Spurs will win easily enough - FA Cup, at home, and against a Zaki & Heskey-less Wigan.

I can't see any big upsets happening. Blyth Spartans against Blackburn (given their current state) should be interesting though.

Jesus, you'd swear Wigan were at home the way there playing.

The blonde sort they keep showing in the crowd makes this game worth watching on its own.

I thought this was advertised on setanta for 8:00 saturday evening?

Maybe its me but I'm having trouble getting engaged by this game. She is very purdy.

Ouch for Zokora - wammed in the ghoulies

Poor enough fare for the most part.

Shockingly this was one of the highlights as half-time

Says it all about the quality of the game

Campbell on his way down before contact? Soft peno I think...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

Fantastic save from Wigan keeper from Campbell's header.

Shush we might get a better second half now

Don't know if it was a dive but it looked softish all right

    Good header by Campbell there.

Wigan really missing Zaki & Heskey up front

Didn't realise there was a match on tonight

random night for an FA Cup match

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

    Does anyone rate the Pavster?

Nice finish for the penalty and his goal record is decent but I don't really rate as a quality player.

Sellotanta lads singing his praises but I think its more a case of the best of a bad lot against a very average defence.

who is the co-commentator on setanta?

and why are there no subtitles?

Don't know but yeah - been a couple of what did he say moments

2-0 Modric with a slick reaction from a ball off the post.

Award for lowest header of the season in the bag surely?

2-1 Camara - shocking defending from Spurs 2 mins left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,213 ✭✭✭✭therecklessone

    Scrappy goal, poor defending there.

    Co-commentator is Chris Waddle.

Nice finish from Pav to wrap it up. Not happy we went to sleep at 2-0, very sloppy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,492 ✭✭✭MementoMori

3-1 The Pavster breakaway goal Keeper should really have stopped it. FT

Cant see Spurs going much further - one of the less convincing 3-1 wins I've seen in a while - If Wigan had any decent forwards I think it could have been a very different game

Nice win for us there. Pav definitly deserved that goal in the end. Very solid performance from him.

I wouldn't judge him on his first months at the club, he's adjusting to the pace of the English game plus remember he has the guts of a full Russian season under his belt on top of his time at Spurs.

He has an eye for the goal, he benefited from Campbell's pace up front meaning he had a bit more space to work with. Defoe and Pav could form a good partnership IMO.

A wins a win! I'm looking forward to watching Rovers getting hammered by Blyth Spartans! It'd be typical of something we'd do! :D

Forgot about the Russian season thing which is a fair point. From what I've seen of him he kinda looks like an old-style bustling English centre-forward - maybe its just I'd expect a slightly more technical player since he's Russian but tis difficult to argue against his goal to game ratio. Dunno yet. Would it definately be him and Defoe as opposed to Bent & Defoe if Defoe were signed?

Bent appears to have gone back off the boil in recent weeks, but of the two I think Pav would bring more to the partnership than Bent, certainly with the poor service the front men are currently getting (Bentley has been very poor in particular)

    City:
Hart, Zabaleta, Richards, Dunne, Ball, Kompany, Fernandes, Elano, Wright-Phillips, Sturridge, Caicedo.

unused subs: Schmeichel (GK), Garrido, Berti, Vassell, Hamann, Clayton, Jo.

Surprisingly song side. No TBH or Ned so both could be on the way out.

    Ireland is injured.

Toon starting very well. Really should be 2 or 3 up.

Andy Carroll should get a goal or two I reckon.

Bendtner picks up the most pointless yellow card of all time.
