Linnet as a supplementary measure

Folks, just wondering if anyone has sowed Linnet at all and what the pro's and cons might be for a tillage operator.

I could plant it in an existing tillage field or in a small standalone plot.

While it is intended for wild birds, I am wondering would it also attract crows, pigeons etc that would attack my cereal crop also (i.e. the non Linnet element).

I have grown it the past two years it attracts more pigeons than crows. Last year which was my second year growing it there was a lot of weeds in the crop because of the wet year and also you cannot spray the crop against weeds.

Well I ended up opting for a 1 Ha plot in a small stand alone parcel so I am not too worried about the pigeons etc now as it is separate from the main cereal crops.

I had assumed that LINNET would need to be sown similar to a commercial cereal crop, but my REPS planner told me to plough this year and just power harrow every year thereafter and then just broadcast the seeds and keep things simple.New Roman]

You don't sow Linnet in REPS, you are suppose to grow crops to attract the Linnet.....

LINNET (LAND INVESTED IN NATURE, NATURAL ECO TILLAGE) It's called a linnet crop or linnet habitat. It's grown to attract birds in general.

    My apologies.

I thought that measure was to attract the linnet birds but it is birds in general as you say :)
