In fairness i dont think you can have an opinion if all you have seen all season is "highlights", and just a note that BOD came right back on in last weeks game and gave everything he could for a team that was lacking in ambition.

Its not announced by a press conference. The squad list is sent to the media by email.
When the squad is narrowed down to 22, there'll be a press conference announcement.

In no way would I question BOD on his commitment on the pitch and that he gives his all. That can also be problematic - particularly for the captain, because for instance, when he is injured it is hard to get him off the pitch when in fact he is doing no one any favours (himself included) by staying on. That was ok when he was mainly fit, but it is happening a lot more often now.

Its not good for team morale because he wants to play and gets his way. It sends out all the wrong messages to his team mates and won't inspire his replacement with confidence.

Edit: just seen posts above. I thought it was a seminal moment when BOD, rather than use his pace to try and catch the try scorer (intercept pass in the world cup), he decided to have a go at Stringer there and then. That was not the BOD of old - he would have had a go (using his pace) at catching the try scorer.

let me lay my cards on the table...

this needs to get back on topic.

let's have no more "there are problems in the ****ing dressing room" unless you are an irish international/backroom staff and have seen these problems in the ****ing dressing room.

Otherwise it is all hearsay and probably BS.

Kidney has basically picked everyone again....non event of a squad imo

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 19,341 ✭✭✭✭Chucky the tree

    That's a ****ing disgraceful squad.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,249 ✭✭✭Goose81

    A couple of things.

Neil Best is still banned afaik.
Devon Toner's ommision from the A team is criminal.
Jonathan Sexton inclusion is puzzling but Kidney obviously feels he just needs an arm around the shoulder to get him back to where he was, which was better than keatley or Humphries.

Ian Bloody Dowling gets picked for the first team and Johne Murphy doesnt even make the A's
This squad is ****e and I can see the way this team is going cough ..Munster.
I dont even think im gona bother watching these 6 nations.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,699 ✭✭✭bamboozle

i can count 15 men over the age of 30 in the squad,

    who's john andress?

will be more interesting to see when its down to 22, wonder if Cullen would have made it, and if so ahead of Mal or Casey.
nice to see some connacht recognition

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,196 ✭✭✭✭Crash

Sexton getting into the 30 is frankly ridiculuous at the moment.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,304 ✭✭✭outwest

that squad is basically saying u play for connacht ur wont play for ireland, keatley should be there a head of sexton, when the last time sexton played for leinster, and played well, i cant remember, happy to see ross ther tho

    thats criminal.

What is sexton doing in there ahead of humphries?

No J. Murphy in either squad.

    no toner in either squad.

I'm not gonna judge Kidney till after the 6N but this is not very promising.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,958 ✭✭✭✭RuggieBear

but it's not even the 30 it's thirty ****ing nine

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,272 ✭✭✭Deedsie

This thread has some very strange opinions. Best for Captain? Seriously. Paul O'Connel is so far ahead of everyone for captaincy its kind of worrying. Back to the woody days.

Its of no real interest till Kidney wittles the squad down to 22. I thought Duffy deserved to be in the first XV squad.

    Here's why:
The squad includes seven uncapped players such as Cian Healy and Ryan Caldwell, with Ulster centre Darren Cave making his first appearance in a senior squad. The panel also includes Leinster’s Gordon D’Arcy who made a welcome return recently to playing following a long term arm injury. Leo Cullen, Tony Buckley, Neil Best and Roger Wilson were not considered for inclusion in the senior squad due to either injury or suspension.

The squad size is designed to allow the national management to work with a greater number of players for the start of the Championship in the important first week of camp. The squad size covers for the fact that the overseas based players will most likely be returning to their clubs on the Wednesday of the first week.

Ireland Coach Declan Kidney said, “We want to continue to develop a panel and bringing in 39 players allows to us to work with the players on this basis. As well as bringing the players through the systems of the team, it allows for the usual knocks the players might pick up. The core group of players who were part of the November squad have maintained their form but it is also pleasing to be able to bring in players who are really developing this season like Darren Cave and Tom Court as well as more established players who have performed well over the last number of weeks”.

A nine man A team panel of players has also been selected by the Ireland Management which includes Ulster’s Ian Humphreys, Leinster backrow Sean O’Brien and Connacht’s Sean Cronin. This panel will be supplemented by players from the senior panel for the A game against the England Saxons on the eve of the France game which is being played in Donnybrook Stadium and will be live on RTE TV. The senior squad for the France game and the squad for the A game will be announced at the end of the first week of camp on Friday, 30th January. Both teams will be announced on Tuesday, the 3rd of February.

Humphreys in the A panel and Sexton in the main squad is a very strange decision - I cant see the sense in it at all

edit - also with that number of people called up - there was no place for Toner? He's been one of Leinsters best players all season!

Thats just baffling. Really is. Has Decco actually watched Ian Humphreys??

Hey Ruggie, can we merge the two Ireland Squad threads? Its bad enough having to read the same moany old sods once but repeating themselves twice??

Paddy Wallace is a super player, and does not deserve that level of sarcasm to be honest! How Ian Humphreys is not is squad is a joke. He destroyed Munster at Thomond on his own....
