2009 Schedule : Ideal for New Starters Looking to Take the Plunge

2008 was a bizarre year for Kokoro (in a good way!).

We got started with just a few people at the gym a year ago. Then, we grew at an insane rate and by the end of the year the class numbers were way out of hand. New starters were feeling a little "lost" and experienced guys got a little "frustrated" at not being able to move forward. Victims of our own success. :o

With just 3 training sessions per week in 2008; we had our share of success and learning experience on the competition circuit too.

Roll on 2009! We're taking the plunge and are going full time.

K1 MMA is ideally suited for beginners, the instruction and drills are 100% tailored and targetted to accomodate those with little or no experience in MMA.

K2 MMA is ideal for those with experience in MMA or a background in contact sports that are looking to move into MMA. Experienced mixed martial artists, boxers, kickboxers and wrestlers welcome.

The whole schedule is supplemented by sparring based sessions in all ranges and competition specific training on the weekend - we can't wait to get stuck in!

Happy New Year everyone and hope see you at the gym in 2009!

Why is the MMA class done in belts?do you give belts for MMA?

Our belts are similar in principle to BJJ in that we give them based on performance and skill level. Many MMA gyms grade people on the BJJ element of their training. We don't, we assess belts/grades based on all round ability (striking, clinchwork and submission wrestling).

Would couloured rashguards not make make sense? I thought it was breaking from tradition?

Theres plenty of fighters who are great bbj but not strikers at all?

Colored rashguards? You do know there's a recession on right? Many MMA gyms differentiate skill level by belt, Miletich fighting systems for example.

I'm gunning for that illuminous green belt! It looks like it hurts but you gotta have some balls to wear it.

That's not a belt Derek! It's a suspender groin guard. The shoulder straps mean that it's tighter than the standard type.

Anyway, just to keep this more on topic, I've got a brand new Judo gi ready to go for Monday

That's good news Dave. Furious Dave in a Mankini would have been too much to bare first day back!

See you all on Monday/Tuesday - mankini not required! :D
