Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I would like to nominate myself for category Arse of the year!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,398 ✭✭✭Phototoxin

might i suggest that we PM results to someone, a mod or someone impartial (ie excluded from winning) so that in the event of a draw that someone wont think.. well they voted for me in xyz category ?

You haven't a hope ThOnda...a small minor matter of the baords photography book gets in the way.

Ken, I'd ditch that category if I were you anyway...I'm all for recognising all what's good, and not any of the negative vibes. Also I could see it causing aggro which means I'd probably have to moderate/ban/infract people.

Please don't do that to me or the other mods. We really have enough to be going on with.

For anyone else, am tempted to suggest that for best project of the year, most people would appreciate a link back to the thread of the project.

I am not going to make any nominations otherwise; this should come from the community.

Well presumably ken will get a bunch of nominations by 16 Jan and then set up a bunch of threads with polls in them, or ask me or AnCatDubh or CabanSail to set up the polls. I wouldn't sticky the poll threads but would link them in another thread which I could sticky as long as polling is open. In which case, ken, thoughts on a deadline for that?
Is that h0ow you want to do it?

So we're not allowed have a laugh? On the boards awards there were nominations for muppet of the year and yet people took that with a pinch of salt. I'm sure we're all mature (most of us) to realise that it's only a laugh.

As for the nominations - in the other forums people did it on the thread. How many of us are seriously going to worry about who voted for us or not? Now I feel like I've wasted my time in suggesting something different.

Lots of threads / lots of polls sounds complicated. How bout the nomination slip gets pm'd to Ken and 1 other - maybe DK or AR seemed enthusiastic??? (if it is to be a secret-ish ballot) or just post replies here and Ken compiles the result (if to be done in open) and then announces a final winners list on 16th January? Like a cheese omelette (plain and simple)

Well I won't be posting around the 16th as I'll be working in London at a rugby match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,393 ✭✭✭AnCatDubh

Could leave it until 21st maybe or a more suitable date?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

Ken, you suggested the 16th. If you're not around, you can change the date. I have no beef with that.

As for muppet/arse of the year type awards, they can and do get personal and frankly I've had to moderate enough muppetry around here over the past 4 or 5 months to take a dim view of it. If not having that award is enough for you to drop the idea however, then why set up all the others? The Muppet of the year award was not without its own issues afair.

As for how you do it, I really don't care how you take the nominations. As I recall the noms for the boards awards were done in a thread and the polls were set up separately. How did you plan to choose a victim/awardee without some sort of voting mechanism? Just the number of nominations or what? Or maybe thanks applied to a nominee?

I don't know. It's entirely up to you how you do it. All I know is that negative awards can and do cause problems. I'd like to avoid but if you want to go through with it, fine. I'll moderate them.

sounds interesting ..... do the awards only go for images posted in photo forum over the last year ... or can I throw myself into the ring for a grasp at momentary success.

lol... could also apply for the nob (ahem.... noob) award.

As they say elsewhere on these boards pics or GTFO :D

As for the best thread - there have been some great threads here on photography but I cant see any of the individual threads beating this one on AH http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055359719 its gotta be the best ever. I know I'm nearly over that age bridge in a few days but I have to let my immaturity show through some where ;)

    Okay.

I moved posts with nominations from the other thread in here but because some of them were time stamped before this thread was started, they're appearing on top.

    This was an unforeseen consequence.

Ken, you want them to stay here, or do you want me to move them to a different place?

Th0nda and Whyulittle to share a gong, nobel-peace-prize-like, for Contributor to the Forum this year. Hard fought one as there have been a number of outstanding members this year...

My new years resolution is to get more involved in photography. I shot in AV this xmas, portraits of my family. I learned a lot and was very happy with some of the results. Next year you'll see more shots from me and I might buy another lens if I get the cash together :)

    DeV.
