Why can't I just cover my children, not myself, on private health insurance?

I think this is a rip off. There's absolutely no good reason why I should not be able to go to VHI/Vivas/Quinn/A.N.Other and get insurance for my children (under 18), while not wanting insurance myself.

I remember my parents said the same back when VHI was the only insurer in the 60s and 70s, even though money was tight they had to have at least one adult on cover before children could be covered. Surely all it needs is a parent/guardian to sign the forms and act on behalf of the child.

Any don't get me started on the lack of so called "specialists" in Ireland and the fact that many earn EUR500,000 p.a. and up. Simply because the numbers have been restricted by vested interests does everyone realise that this translates to
    a) longer waiting times on PRIVATE insurance
    b) lack of availability of specialists to see you at a time SUITABLE TO YOU
    c) exhorbitant fees which is passed back to the insurers hence the reason in the high subscription costs charged by VHI etc.

In the UK specialists earn appx 60% of the salary they earn here. And, due to the volume of people they treat, they can truly be called specialists and have a knowledge base that does not exist here.

    Over and out.

VHI can do policy for children to not include adults, Policy needs to be set up in Guardians name alright, however, Guardian does not need to be included on the policy.
