Also well done to Jamie Daly for coming fourth in the 750 event. Mightn't seem like a huge result but has to be one of the sickest final tables ever - Mark Goodwin, Alan Trueick, Aidan Cullinane, Mark Spellman, Jude Ainsworth, Paul Jackson, Donal Norton, Surinder Sunar & DevilFish

Up until the last day, every single update was on the front page but this was one of the contributing factors for the site going down so often. I have changed it so that all updates are now visible once again.

I'm still only recovering from the event, was great to cover it and Conor Maguire of Lakeland IT had a great system in place to ensure we could offer as much coverage as we did. Hope you enjoyed the updates and congratulations to Rory who played superbly all throughout.

My highlight was being sat behind Neill Channing and Jesse May for the final table coverage. Neill's knowledge of the game was absolutely mindblowing and was a genuine pleasure to hear him comment on the hands. A few years a go, commentary was very basic and it's a sign of just how far the game has progressed when terms like "Fold Equity, Gap Concept and metagame" are thrown around freely!

I have a few questions for you Rory, if you don't mind. Think of it as the questions I would have asked you had I done the post-game interview :)

Undoubtedly, one of the biggest hands for you was when you took the chiplead from Ben Vinson when you were 9 handed. For those that don't know it, David Poole raised to 22k from EP, Rory reraised to 70k and then the chipleader, Ben Vinson, makes it 180k from the blinds. Once David got out of the way, you elected to flat-call, can you explain your thoughts behind this? I assumed it was because you would be guaranteed to get one more bet from Ben on the flop (which was 8cJd5h). Were you happy with this flop?

On the final table, who were you most worried about?

When you were three handed, would you say you were in the worst position on the table in that you were out of position to the most aggressive player?
Ben Vinson limps on the button and Chris Dowling folds his SB. Brennan raises to 75k from the BB. Vinson calls and Rory has to play another flop out of position to Vinson. The flop comes 5s3d2h and Brenndan bets 110,000 and Vinson calls. We see a turn of 4d and with action to Rory, he reaches for his chips and bets 200k. Vinson now pushes all-in! Rory takes a massive deep breath before announcing call with AQ for the bottom end of the straight. Ben shows K5 and a King on the river is of no help meaning Rory takes down a massive pot of 1.6million. Ben Vinson is now on 232k!

Given how Ben had been playing, to me this bet looked like you were trying to induce but how did you feel when he announced all-in? What do you think of his play in this hand?

Having that board pair on the river when you had K5 was absolutely sick. What was going through your mind after that? How did it affect you? Did you feel it all slipping away, or were you still confident that you could win?

Once you lost the chiplead, I noticed you limp your button a lot. Were you doing this because you felt you could outplay Chris on flops or did you just want to keep pots as small as possible and wait for a big hand?

Once again, congratulations on the immense performance and win!

Adam, brilliant job on the reporting. Apologies to you and everyone else for the downtime on the site during the event.

For approx 2.5 hours on the saturday evening all the ISP's (Register365.com/Namesco) servers disappeared down a blackhole without explanation (other than this: http://www.names.co.uk/network_status.html).

On top of that, the partypokeripc.com website was servicing 30,000+ requests per day and struggled to cope. Shared hosting .

Anyway, other than that, I hope the update service was useful!

    Hey,

Okay il try my very best to answer all of your questions, hope I make sense-

    - In the large pot with Ben I had KK..the action was raise to 25k from ep, I made it 60k and Ben from sb made it 165k..I had already heard about this young english guy that was playin v agg n v wel. We were by far the biggest 2 stacks left in it so when the action came back around I just wanted to fold to be honest-we were on the final tble bubble and this was the only guy that could bust me. I went into the tank and really thought that he could have 3 hands - AA, QQ or AIR...since he was clearly a strong and intelligent player he knew that I would beed KK or even maybe AA to continue with him in the hand (also I had already reraised pre twice in te last 10mins which he obv wuda notices). So I thought okay if I ship it in now he'll call with AA n fold everything else,so theres no point. If he has QQ n I call Il get a cont. bet on nearly all flops n I can shove it in then, and this is again true for xx hands. It should be noted at this point that I didnt mind if he did have AA I was just tryin to maximise the amount I could get IF HE DIDNT. Anyway flop came j83 n he best 165k n I moved in n he instapassed-this flop is just fine as he never has JJ or 88...he later told me he had 74s so I really liked the way I played the hand. I think his play is pretty advanced and there was a lot of merit in it as I was defo folding QQ n AK to him.

    - Regarding the FT I had like 1mil and the next closest was Ben with 600k..this is a pretty big lead so I was pretty confident I'd be getting down to the top3 places unless I got very unlucky. I didn't really plan on steamrolling the table much or anything because I had been very aggressive b4 the ft and knew that every other player was aware of my agressive nature. The main threat was clearly Ben Vincent, not only did he had by far the 2nd biggest stack but I knew that he was extremely capable and dangerous. Even though I was the only guy that could bust him I knew he wasn't afraid to mix it up with me, so I thought I'd avoid him when possible and wouldn't be gettin involved without a hand. Also I didn't want Derek (greenrizla) moving up in chips, because I knew he'd be super dangerous if he got a good stack together.

    - On the AQs hand vs Ben. When I bet flop and he called, I thought there was a lot of cards I was gonna shove the turn with (heart, A K Q J, 4) cause I felt he had like a 5 or a 4 a lot of the time on the flop, I was thought he could be floating me light intending to bluff on turn or river because he had done this before. Anyway when I bang off the nutter butter turn I had like 550-600k behind and my thinking was - I had checked hands over to him a few times and he had bet and I had passed...I really thought that he would think that if I did have an Ace I would check it to him and let him bluff it...for that reason I decided to bet 200k and try make it 1. as if I had 77-KK type hands 2. as if I did't wanna seem weak checking but also left myself a decent shoving stack of like 350k (at 10-20k). Thankfully Ben was clever enough to see I had left myself enough behind to pass if he moved in and he obliged and did so. I think his play is pretty bad for the reasons that 1.Its hard for him to rep an Ace after he limped on the button 2. He cant really rep a 6 as a lot of hands with 6 in them push the flop I think (56s,46s even 67s) and I cant seem him jst peeling say if he had K6 as apposed to his k5s or whatever. He said to me after that he just could never see me leading the turn with the straight n with my stack so low so I guess that worked out well.

    - When I got done on the turn with 2pair vs his 1 pair I was in such shock it was untrue...I just couldn't believe that my title had been stolen...I swear I just couldnt wait to go and rant my brains out at anyone that would listen. After about 30seconds of counting chips to give Chris I was thinking that basically Im prob gona have to win a flip and then in my eyes if I did, I would be favourite to win the tourn again. With my stack hovering around 500-700k I really didn;t wana raise fold as at 15-30k Im just burning too much of my stack if I did raise-fold. I decided to limp a lot of pots with my marginal hands and only raise if I was willing to call the allin, or else just shove allin first myself (although my stack was just to big to do that too so it was a pretty akward stack size). Luckily in some of the limped pots I caught some hands and was able to win big pots with em...I feel Chris looked my up light a few times and this musta been my horrible mistimed bluffs and earlier aggression finally paying some dividends. Also Chris wasn't in overdrive preflop (not that he shoulda been) so I was able to limp these pots and drive and mix it up between hitting some flops and stealing these pots that essentially added 10% to my stack for each one I stole on flop.

Hope this stuff makes sense as I've not done this really before (and I think Ive rambled some and I cant bring myself to reread it), and also hope I answered all your Qs. Anymore just let me know and I'll try to reply,

    Cheers,

    Reesy

What did you have against John Kalmar early doors? He showed J10 hearts on a 4 club board after you folded to his river bet.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 571 ✭✭✭smoothcall

I had two red Kings...! so sick when he raised me I thought pure bluff puttin me on AK or QQ/JJ. When turn went checkcheck I was like ok now il just value bet small on river...another dirty club n I check he bets I presumed he just had QQc and dont really think hero calls r advisable early in tourns...guess he owned me on that one thou
