That's a separate issue though GreeBo. Most of those interclub competitions have that 4 qualifying competitions in the previous year thing as a condition (except the scratch ones where handicaps don't matter).
Scotland it seems has a system where if you don't play enough competitions in one year then your handicap is lapsed and you can't compete in another (club) competition until you re-activate it again, though you can use that handicap of course socially.

Seems like a good idea, would remove some of the handicap bandits who only play fourball opens etc.

To play in our Captains you need to have played 5 singles that year.

    - Not to shoot more than 80 (or less than 30 points in Stableford) in any competitive round

No. Only shot 80+ once on my home course all year, so close but no hamlet.

    - Win something outright

Yes, won club singles matchplay yesterday.

    - Shoot two rounds equal to or below my handicap in a 36 hole competition

No. Played really poorly in JSCs all year.

    - Birdie every hole on my home course in competition through the year

16 out of 18 so far. 3 comps left to get those elusive two.

Goals are the best thing for improvement though.

    Goals for rest of year:
    Win a Turkey.
Hit 80% of fairways in a round.
    Go a round without a 3 putt.
get 2/3 birdies in a round.

If I could have seen these goals last year i would be pretty annoyed by the fact that i disimproved. But I have only played twice in last 3 months and had another month and a half off around exam time.

Once I'm driving I'll be sorted

Didn’t put down any aims at the start of the year, that’s because I wasn’t really playing! After a lengthy time out of golf due to college and work I finally got things back together and got a handicap of 16 in June.

After 5 straight 0.1’s I went up to 17 after that lucky enough I had my first cut. Since than it’s mainly been going down, to 15 - 14 back to 15 down to 14 - 13 and now 11. Sitting on the high side of 11 now so wouldn’t be surprised if I was off 12 for the winter.

One of my main goals was too simply enjoy my golf which has definitely been achieved and obviously get my handicap down. Hope to continue my progress over the winter months. Got new irons so they might temporarily set me back till I get used to them.

Ha ha... and you talk about me being a hex?
I bet that one time you were on the wrong side of 80 was in the first competition after you set the target!

Well I had that not breaking target of not breaking 80 that lasted no length either. Had a less than 70 target too that was well that was well on in Spain last week. -3 playing my third into the wind from 120 on the last, airmailed the green, buried in the bermuda, only to hack into the bunker and proceed to treble from nowhere.

From a 68 to a 71 in minutes, sums up my year, a fooking disaster!

Get down to single figures: started off at a strugglin 13.8 down to 11.1. not quite but getting there.

Be more consistent: done. played 15 18 hole comps with 3 .1s back. only went under 34 points 4 times out of 15. won a few student prizes.

Do well for major comp: not a chance. decent if unspectacular 74 net in captains prize while i was 21 the day before presidents prize so that wasnt goin to happen

Get on interclub team: Got on pierce purcell but we had a bad day in mitchelstown. Disappointed not to get on Bruen team as we were hosting it. i

Putt better: got a lesson off pro in putting was averaging bout 36 now about 31 so thats not too bad

Drive better: I suppose a little bit. still not hitting too many fairways but at least there in the general direction these days

Break 80 in comp: Done diddly done, broke it 5 times wit my best of 77 last week
