    Hiya Lads,

I have a Ford Escort 94'' and its my first car, so i am not really fully aware of cars yet...

The issue is, when i drive the car and I have the Air con on, it gives me a smell of petrol, its not that strong so that its dangerous but its enough to make me concern. The car was idle for few months before I started to drive it.. so I don't know if that would help in determining what it might be.

I really just need to know as to what the issue might be before i hand it over to a mechanic that might just charge me an arm and a leg for it... At least with your advise I can just say.. check this..

Hope this makes sense... Thanks for any advise you have for me..

I doubt you have air-con tbh! But if you sniff fumes through the vents then you have a leak, prolly a union joint in the fuel pipe between the pump and the injector.

Does it smell of actual petrol or just engine fumes? It could be your outlet manifold gasket. My mate has an old escort that had this problem. If it is this then its a pretty cheap fix. €20 or so if you're any way handy with a spanner. Rev the engine and hold some tissue paper against where the exhaust meets the engine and see if it moves (blows air/fumes).

    Hiya All,

Thanks for all of your advise, I took my car to the mechanic and he fixed it. Turned out to be a cut in the petrol pipe and he he had to change the pipe, and now no smell of petrol at all and it only cost me €40... Happy days...!!!
