So I was out the other night.....

I was out in town before christmass with a couple of that lads and we went into a very well known pub here in town (I wont name it even though I'd love too).

Now the night was going grand untill I had to break the seal as you inevitably do and headed into the the Mens, On my way out a Bouncer walked in and I just happen to half catch his eye and kept walking.

Out in the hall the bouncer in question comes after me says VERY louldy infront of a handful of people that he's had reports of someone "matching my "description" (I'm 6ft 6 and like 19 stone) dealing coke in the there and says if its said to him again that security will throw me out. As I was fairly steamed I pleaded with him over my innocence and explained that he must have the wrong guy. he said ok and walked off!

Now if you where to look at me you'd make the assumption that i'm not dealer as i'm placid out. I just kind of laughed it off at the time but now that I think about it I kinda pissed me off, I'd be fairly well know around due to my job I deal with regular customers. what occured to me was what if x y or z had been there to hear it.

Has this even happen to anyone? if it was a regular enough I really wouldn't care.

OP a friend of mine was in a pub in Waterford a couple of months back, big guy also and a deise native and same thing happened to him.

Cant remember the name of the pub but he was in taking a leak and 3 bouncers came in asked him to leave as he was suspected of dealing drugs.

He told them they could search him if he wanted but they declined and just asked him to leave.

Dodgy, would making such acusations in a public place in this manner not be seen is slander?
Its a little more serious then just saying somebody has drunk too much in fairnes considering drug dealing is very much illegal.

Id be pretty peeved if someone shouted that out in earful of others. There are laws against that kinda thing. Sometimes some bouncers can over step the mark a bit.

If its a fairly well run place you should have went back the next day when you were sober and complained to the manager and then maybe something could have been done about it , no use coming onto an anonymous website weeks after the incident and not even naming the place ffs! Sometimes this board seems to be getting as bad as Billy " please dont name any names or the establishment in question " Mccarthy . name and shame and then you might see something done

Bring you'r custom elsewhere, you can drink anywhere, they can only sell it in the one place, then it will be their loss, hit them in the pocket.

We dont have a choice. You name and shame, Boards gets sued. Which would you prefer? The option to have a site where you can discuss different topics with reason or a forum where you can say whatever you want about anybody and risk suing the forum owners and even yourself?

Blame Irish law. Boards is also responsible, not just the poster.

And just to add that if anyone is considering naming and shaming they will be escorted off the premises.

I can understand why you can't name and shame. The guys who run the board have to protect themselves.

However, I would be seriously pis*ed off if this happened to me. I would advise you to sit down and write a fair letter of complaint to the manager. It won't get you anywhere most likely, but will make you feel that you made your point about how wrong it was and how belittled you felt.

After that, I'm afraid it's a case of boycott the place. I had a bad experience just before Xmas where a bouncer was completely unreasonable to me, and the only way I know that will hit them is to stay away with my pals during the lean months ahead.

i no its a litte late now but in hindsight you should have got the bouncer to identify who was slandering you when he was good enough to single you out for it yeno, ask them for the facts and tell them to get them straight fecin bouncer pickin on a half sloshed victim more like it:D

Ah i lvoe when bouncers come up to me and tell me im too drunk or some other crap like that, they always think im plasterd off my face or on somthing and 99% of the time i drive home after being out, and when i start talking to them and they realise im completly sober they back off, its fun! :D

not for one moment attempting to defend the old style Neanderthal bouncer or anything but it is the case that many popular city centre pubs are having problems with coke use on the premises, hence the reason why any flat surface in the toilet area is regularly sprayed with WD40. Maybe in the case of the afore mentioned pub they are reacting hysterically to what they perceive as a chronic problem for them.

God be with the innocent days (nearly 30 years ago)of the city centre pub they used to joke about having a sign inside that said 'no walking on the ceilings' cos of all the 'jazz fags' apparently being smoked once you walked in the door. The days before 'the devil's dandruff' took over and turned everyone into freakin' rock stars once they'd hoovered up a few lines *sighs* :D

Well tbh there does'nt seem to be many opportunities to discuss different topics reasonably on this site lately its definitely over moderated the minute something is done or said theres a gang of them down on top of people . Maybe they should try put some perspective on it , its only an internet discussion site not the real world and before anyone asks I wont feel free to discuss it in a PM

Boards.ie is simply protecting itself which is very important, if expressing your views in such a manner and nam,ing and shaming companys and people is so important to you start a blog or your own message board and see how you get on :)

    Back on topic anyway,

Personally if it was me I would have kicked up there and then, but if its that much of an issue I'd say go back and speak to the manger about the slanderous remarks made

Cronies eh. Interesting spin on it. Dont go winging and bitching at us because Irish law makes boards.ie owners responsible for slanderous and libellous comments. The internet might be a bit of "craic" and not "serious business" the same about message boards. The difference between a small city forum to a large national site like Boards.ie is its watched by press and companies. Its much more popular then a ****ty pokey little tabloid style local city forum which has a go at anybody they like and gets away with it because nobody really pays any attention to the forum contents.

I see many reported posts on Boards.ie from different companies and individuals threatening legal action against Boards because some idiot decided to post slanderous comments against the company. Irish law means that such comments are the responsibility of Boards.ie. So by you going ahead and having a go at some company and making slanderous comments does and has resulted in Boards.ie being taken to court. Dont be so bloody selfish with your "who cares if they get sued" attitude.

Most Boards.ie users have seen the effects of such - just look at the pinned topic on every single forum about a group you cant discuss as a result of peoples winging and bitching getting Boards.ie owners into trouble. Clearly thousands of posters accept this and are able to have great discussions on Boards.

If you dont like not being able to say what you want about who you want then your not welcome here. We will continue to remove comments that put this website and their owners at any risk.

This position has been made very clear by now. If you want to question it, have the balls to send one of the mods a PM and stop hiding behind the public view. Last warning - keep on topic or get out.

It's just my take on it, and I'm not a mod...

I can understand how much fun it would be if we were able to name names and have a right old bitch about them, but the fact is that Boards is a company (or part of) and is liable. If you decide to make a slanderous comment for the fun of it and the mods fail to delete it, Boards may be sued to the point that they cease to operate. At that point, the many people employed by Boards lose their jobs. How will you feel then? That's the real world mate. It's happening all around us at the moment, and we shouldn't want to risk further redundancies for the sake of a bit of fun.

God I've never generated such a debate before,

Although granted not about what I posted :D

Keeping on topic I decided to leave it slide and just not go into said pub (Would you believe I actually typed the name of the place by accident).
