What should happen when you report a post? Should you hear from somebody about whether the post is deemed ok or not or does it just float off into the ether with the reportee wondering for the rest of their natural lives 'was the post offensive or was it just me?'

    the latter generally :)

It would be impossible to respond to them all, especially on busy forums. And then how do you respond?

When you report a post, a discussion thread is opened in the 'reported posts' forum and each of the mods and cmods gets an email notifying them of it. Sometimes a discussion ensues and sometimes it doesnt.

If something is really bugging you, you could probably pm a relevant mod if you want a response.

Depends on the moderator really. Some will acknowledge the report, particularly if it's by PM, but most generally don't, particularly on the busier forums where there are many reported posts. As for how it's dealt with, well generally the mod will decide if it's a valid complaint, and if so will take action or report it upwards to an SMod. If you've reported a post and nothing has happened it's either because there's no mod around to deal with it, or the mods have looked at it and reckon it's fine. In such cases they won't contact you to tell you this, unless you have a record of reporting posts without there being a need to. However, one thing you can be assured of is that every reported post does get looked at.

You won't generally get a reply from a mod about it, some mods get a large amount of reports. You may see action on thread but if it's something serious then try pming the mod to make sure they got the report. But all mods get an email to say that there is a reported post for them.
