Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Yes it would.

This is just a fast shutter speed (ok, good macro lens, light setup, etc).

If you have the right setup, then the camera could certainly capture an image like that.

Or a very slow (5 secs+) shutter speed (ok, good macro lens, flash light setup, etc).

There was a C&C thread by TheNorthBank a few months ago showing his setup for those type of shots on page 2 of the thread. Could be worth a look. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055408823

That image was 1/111 sec, f/3.4, ISO 64.

I didn't say anything about any image. I just said it CAN be done with a slow shutter and flash lighting etc. :)

As mentioned already, these type of shots are usually done with flash, preferably off-camera. With this the shutter speed doesn't matter. The chances of doing it with just ambient light are pretty slim as you'll need a small aperture and a short shutter speed. Any fully manual DSLR can do it, you'll just need to sort out some kind of off-camera flash system - I also don't think you need a very good macro lense, just something with decent close-focusing. You can also try it with on-camera flash or even the pop-up flash, but you'll get very flat results. I wrote a bit about one of my experiments here, if you're interested.

Sounds like that particular photo was taken on a small compact pocket camera...

A proper SLR would capture this no problem, providing the lens was good enough for a close focus or the picture was high quality enough or a close crop.

Hi, I took all these http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055408823 using a Fuji S9500 and simple built in Flash so don't panic and think you need some fancy set-up with expensive lighting etc...
The only thing you need to be aware of if your using a 450D is that you'll need to buy an external Flashgun (430EX/580EX, and these can be expensive, 300-550euro) because the built in flash won't fire at shutter speeds faster than 1/200 second. I asked a question back in November about why the flash won't fire at shutter speeds in excess of 1/200 here http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055429690 and got a great answer.
If its just the water shots your mainly interested in shooting I couldn't recommend the Fuji S9500 enough, in fact there's one for sale on adverts at the moment here: http://www.adverts.ie/showproduct.php?product=87470&cat=51

That shot was taken with an old Minolta compact camera, so any SLR will be able to capture something similar.
