I rang Zavvi Kilkenny Friday morning 9am after tracking boards and asked if the PS3 were in the sale. I was told they weren't!
Found out Saturday they were on sale through Boards but couldn't get to the store. I was in Zavvi Dundrum today and they are sold out and the girl behind the counter told me there's none left in any Zavvi's. Did offer the very helpful advice that there still available in England:mad:

There seems to be some sort of wild discrepincy in pricing in Zavvi. I was in blanch earlier & wanted to pick up som BluRay - they've gone from being 2 for €30 (selected) to €19.99 each with a further 20% at the till. I was looking for Sleeping Beauty & remembered seeing it in Liffey Valley for less than the whopping €48 blanch were looking for it.

I headed over to LV & picked up Sleeping Beauty & Swordfish (I know, but I like it) at 2 for €30 with a further 30% off at the till, so I paid €22 in total for those two. If they weren't closing down I probably would have taken the risk on buying another sleeping beauty with something else, then returned it to blanch tomorrow for a €48 refund !! If I wasn't such a moral & upstanding citizen that is... (& they weren't closing so may not take it back)

all products in the different zavvi stores are the same price, if it's part of the 2 for 30 in liffey, then it's gonna be the same in blanch, but just hasn't been priced right. sometimes, especially now, it's just not possible to make sure everything is priced correctly. different zavvi stores aren't selling the same items for different prices anyway.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,489 ✭✭✭iMax

Sorry pornstar but you're incorrect. The batch that were priced at 2 for €30 in blanch have been re-stickered @ €19.99 ea. Sleeping Beauty was stickered @ €48. the LV ones were priced @ 2 for €30

I have always found Zavvi far too expensive, but it is still sad to see it go. Its good that HMV could take over though,, so alot of jobs will be saved. Having a HMV in Dundrum and Liffy Vally will be good too.

I was in Zavvi in Blanchardstown today and with 30% off all DVD's, I got some great bargains.

    Mad Max Trilogy - 7.69
    Lethal Weapon Collection - 10.49
    Days Of Thunder - 2.79
    Mr Brooks - 5.59
    Sea Of Love - 4.19
    Malcolm X - 3.50
Black Hawk Down 3 Disc Special Edition - 3.50
    Dustin Hoffman collection - 6 films - 6.99
    Oceans Trilogy - 13.99

Loads of other great deals, especially on 24 DVD's, which are only 18 euro each with the 30% off.

I got Heroes Seasons 1 & 2 on blu ray for €63 today in the Newbridge store. 30% off all there blu rays as well so I picked up Terminator 2 & Total Recall as well

Thanks. Any chance you can get your mate to find out if there are any PS3s left in any of the shops? Just to clear it up for us Boardsies?! :D

My friend was in the dubdrum store yesterday and he was told Dundalk have PS3's in stock at the 280 euro. This could be BS from the employee though.

50% off on Wednesday sounds great!!

could be like the tesco's offers, where the staff take all the good stuff

Replace "tesco" with "any company" and you've nailed it.

Exactly, especially since the staff are being let go. If you think you are going to get 50% off a PS3, which they could probably sell back in bulk to the wholesaler, another shop, or staff then you're dreaming.

still might be some decent value on blu-rays tho

Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'm aware you mentioned "another shop", but how exactly are Zavvi going to sell stock back to the wholesaler, when the wholesaler is the reason they are in administration in the first place and also the reason why their stock cannot be replenished?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,289 ✭✭✭Talisman

I have always found Zavvi far too expensive

In my experience they've always been cheaper than the likes of HMV. The only area of the store that I could fault their pricing is the World Cinema and Anime DVD sections where you could be guaranteed to find fleece the sucker prices on items, e.g. €33 for Man Bites Dog or Battle Royale.

Their main wholesaler has gone under. Zavvi are supplied by (and owe money to) a selection of wholesale outlets, any number of which could arrange to accept official branded Sony product as payment in lieu at cost price. This would be an infinitely more acceptable arrangement for the creditors (and possibly the administrators ) than shifting them to the public at 50% off.

There is also the possibility that their consoles have been supplied by the main Dublin games wholesaler, as is the norm for Irish retail, in which case it's simply a matter of returning the stock for credit.

I bought man bites dog is zavvi for €7 a few months ago, they have a strange pricing policy of "art house" dvds though, funny games €7 then increased to €33!!!

Zavvi apper to be fully stocked with dvds and cds not too many games, expecting over 50% off soon

insane amount of DVDs,CDs and blu rays in blanch.
Games are pretty crap though nearly all the hardware is gone minus a truckload of 360 accessories for cheap.

Vinyl seems to be the only thing 50% off but they only have like 10 vinyls instore anyway :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,283 ✭✭✭PrivateEye

30% off ALL DVDS in Liffey Valley, 50% off t-shirts, 30% off CDs and books too.

    Random items (Toys etc.) slashed.

Before Christmas, before liquidation had been mentioned, I bought seasons of Alias in Zavvi Belfast for £15. Zavvi Liffey Valley, in sale mode, is selling the same titles for €36.99! There is a strange logic when it comes to sale prices.

any further details on this supposed 50%?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 856 ✭✭✭ergo

anyone been to any of the Zavvis in the UK recently?

am gonna pop into the Liverpool one tomorrow (they've closed one of the Liverpool ones and shifted the stock to the other Liverpool shop)

I know they had PS3's for STG£260 last weekend

ans just in general I'm really sad to see them go to the wall, wouldn't be much consolation if HMV took over (except for the peoples jobs) - who would HMV be competing wth then? .....Tesco

soemone posted that they were never cheap, I completely disagree; there were some great deals to be gotten there at various points

Just back from the dundrum one, spent about an hour and a half in there rooting through everything.

There's a ton of blu-ray stuff left. I didn't spend more than a tenner on anything, 30% off all marked prices on dvds and cds.
