Two cracking check outs especially the 129.Don't worry about not getting 180, an hours practice or slightly more a day should sort that out and even if that doesn't work once you're hitting an average of 60 (3 dart average)you should beat most average players. I use a programme called no1 quite similar to dartpro which has your average per dart. Last week my average was 27.10 in one leg hitting a 180 but busting believe it or not a 140, still I got a 18 or 19 darter against a friend who was back on the 200 mark:) I'll join a team for next season and I reckon you should do too. Where do you live? I'd say there would be someone who lives in your area that could help you out.

I've hit a few 100+ check outs and alot of 180's and I only average around 50 I'd say. Getting your average to 60 would mean that your a pretty good dart player. I don't use that software though so my average isn't really accurate just an educated guess, where do you get it?**

If your like me you'll "bottle it" alot of times before you hit a 180, ie two slap bang in the treble and a third dart begging to be stacked on top of the first two. You cock your arm ready to fire, get the rush of blood and end up hitting double 1 or something with the third dart. But after you hit a few 180's, when you land the first two in you know that the third one is going in.

**EDIT: Google found it for me :)

Ive been playing now since last May, and i found that i made the most marked improvement in the first 2 months, and it was a much more slow sustained progress over time through big practice sessions.

I now play in regular tournaments and play for a team on the same team as Jacko Barry (PDC)

I use both Dart Pro and N01 for practicing, i tend to average 55-65 most games, but its only the last 3 months that its been sustained at that, before that one game i'd average 60, the next i'd average 40

dont get discouraged, just practice on getting a method that works for your throw and concentrate on immitating it each time. also try a few different setups

if you lightly throw the dart at the board a normal flight is best, if you throw them with force then pear shape flights are meant to be the best. Try things out while your still learning. also try different weight of darts

With N01 it will generate opponents based on a given level, with dart pro you can play a mate or you can play against previous legs that you have thrown, i have gone into single 501 mode and produced some legs manufactured in there, random scores the whole way down, and saved them all up.

Then i used 501 .vs. Me which lets me play against 501 legs ive saved, then i pick the average of an opponent i want to play, which i set to 57-65 most times and play away, it picks random legs each leg and gives you a measure of the opponent your playing.

And finally, on the 180, it will come, focus on banging in tons and ton 40's and eventually it will just happen, you bottle them the first few 180's but once you've hit 20 or so you start forgetting about the hype of hitting one and just throw the last darts (that said i still sometimes pull the last one, maybe im just excitable :D )

Havin played right for a year or more but was average enough, sort of legs id throw would be 60,41,140,55,100,41 and so on, inconsistant stuff, the highest check out i every had was 158, two treble 20's and a double 19. i sort of remember thinkin of hittin a 6 to leave D16 after the two trebles as my opponent was on 200+ but then though **** it i go fo it, and she flew in :D

There is no substitute for playing against someone to improve your game. The computer software is not the same.

Get to your pub and chalk, and play against anyone that wants to play.

Play as often as you can, and learn what to do (and what not to do ).

Remember to have fun with it !!

If you can find a pub that has a board. Its actually shocking in galway, maybe 10% of pubs have a board....or less.... If it doesn't have a dartboard its not a pub.:p
I use both Dart Pro and N01 for practicing,
Which is better? I will probably download both when I go home but it would be nice to know which one is best use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,182 ✭✭✭dionsiseire

Dart Pro for me is a Slicker Polished Machine with better stats

N01 allows you to play against a generated opponent and allows you to give an opponent a handicap, so if you get good and your mates dont want to play you, it allows you to offer to play off 701 or 901, still great practice for you, but gives them more of a chance as practice isnt about winning, its about getting better, ive found mates dont like being beaten permenantly, so if i am looking to practice my scoring i offer to play 901, if im looking to practice my doubles i offer to play 701 or 501 double to start.

Well anyone who is able to checkout 129 has to be a half decent player. That tells you that the ability is there and if you put in some practice you're going to get better and better. Sure my highest out is only 140, never got better than that. My average would usually be between 50-60 but it differs depending on my opponent. If I'm playing someone useless my average would be below 50, if I play someone good it will be above 60.

Just play a smuch darts as possible and you will improve. Something you should note though, make sure you stick at it. I have noticed if I dont pick up a dart for a week or two when I get back on the board I'm all over the place.

    Good luck with it.

Mule you'd have to join a community centre style club maybe

i join St ColmChilles in Swords

maybe try something like that, the teams are out there, were in the rushtown darts league, we beat second last week to push further ahead

There is a recreation centre down the road from the house that is probably my best bet.

I assume your closer to city centre than swords

i cant think of many clubs as you push closer to the centre, finglas, ballymun, beaumont, artane i cant think of many places around there except dropping into a few of the more non nightclub type pubs and ask

I like n01 too, I haven't tried dart pro. I play between level 3 and 4 mostly winning at 3 an losing at 4. I used to play a mad amount of darts when I was younger, hit my first 180 (from full distance on regular height board) at the age of 12 (it's photographed with an A4 sheet with the date stuck in the bullseye), at the age of 15/16 I'd hit regular 180's and was playing to county youth level (twice qualified to play for Wexford in inter-counties and missed it both time due to other commitments, they won it both times too :( ). My parents both played county too and I had traveled to a few inter county events with them in too, I remember going to Balleybofey when I was 10 or 11, it was a mad journey all the way from Wexford.

Drifted away from the game with college and moving to Dublin full time, bought our house last year and in the last month or so have got the board up and really found time to start practicing (I'm nearly 26 now). At first it comes pretty easy, I was hitting around a 60 average pretty quickly but building from that base is the difficult part. Now I average mid 60's or so and have started hitting a few 180's most nights (3 and a 177 on Tuesday).

Living out in Tallaght now and I've heard Molloys in the village have a pretty good set up so I'm thinking of heading down there soon for a few games.
Playing real people is so different to playing against the computer, I've notices as soon as I play a mate my average will drop a few points, I think it's a lot to do with the fact I know I'm miles better and try way too hard to impress, the pressure of hitting the doubles against a real opponent is just a different world. Even back in my teens when I was playing in regular tournaments and hitting 180's in practice I only ever hit 2 or 3 in actual competitions.

I find that practicing around the board on the doubles is good for warming up, that and hitting the bull or 25 with all 3 darts. At the moment my finishing is really killing my average, most nights I'm doing well if it's 20%, just not near good enough and I know it's probably be worse under competition pressure. I was practicing games of 201 down the other day because I notice my scoring tends to slip at this stage when I'm thinking about the finish, it's amazing the tension that suddenly develops, you go in with say 167 thinking about hitting the bull to finish it and the first darts drifts into the 1, you score 41 and still have a big finish left, rather than treating it like a normal throw and taking as much off as possible, seeing as it's very unlikely you'll actually hit the finish. The mental part of the game is just so demanding.

Anyway that's a big long winded rant about a load of rubbish that hardly relates to the thread at all. In conclusion I love darts. Pretty sure I've checked out 170 in practice in the past.

Just turn it when you think it's getting worn, it's not going to do it any arm, every week or two should do for moderate use, maybe even less.

The 180 will definitely come, the last dart is the killer for so long, you'll know as soon as it leaves your hand when you do hit it and the feeling is immense. :)

Absolutely, it always happens to me. I agree with the advice to treat it as normal throw and try and take a 100 off it if possible but i always end up stepping up to the oche mentally going for the finish. Of course it all to often ends up as a 24 score. Especially the 127s, 124s, 122s, 121s.

The small bit of advice that i could give you is to count your scores better. For example in your checkout of 129, you went for 20s first... if you had hit a single 20 and had 109 left, you wold not have been able to check it out... if however you went for 19s and missed the treble, you would still have had a checkout (60, bull)

Obviously this takes time to learn but you'd be surprised of the edge bthat you get when playing against players who aren't so good at counting, and believe me, there are a lot of good players who aren't.

We've mentioned that alot in some of the other threads. I learned most of my outs from chalking games of better players and then getting an opportunity to play against them.

This is where the software is not as good as playing another person.

Thats brilliant dema, now just continue to pummel the 20 bed and they will keep coming, i found the first 5 to be the hardest and then they have started flowing in recent times because im not thinking about how deadly it would be to get a 180 any more. im just trying to score as much as possible each visit and not putting any emphasis on the 180 and because ive hit so many now the bottling of the last dart has gone away, i might not always hit a 180 with the last dart but its stopped pulling off to a 5 or 1 or 12 :D

when you've hit a few 180's get mates over and play with them and see if you can get one with people watching. i found that to be a lot harder, ive only hit 1 whilst playing a mate and none in actual tournament play. ive hit 3 or 4 down with my club while throwing practice darts before we head off to a match. but by and large hitting the 3 in the bed with people there has been the hardest since hitting the first one

I have vista and it works. Install plugin as directed in Readme.txt. Then run N01, goto options-->plugins and then highlight your plug in. Click property (spelled wrong i think) and then browse to the folder where you have all the 180.wav, 100.wav files stored. If you have dartpro installed just navigate to that folder and find the folder with the sounds. (You need to rename all the sounds below 100. Eg. 030.wav change to 30.wav, 003.wav change to 3.wav)

Its quality having the caller. :)

    For those looking for this

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2Y7HKZ4G

Russ Bray calling your Scores, putting these in the media folder of DartsPro gives you Russ Bray calling

These potentially can be used with N01, im sure death1234567 will let us know once tried

    Router/Port Problems
If your having trouble connecting its most probably a Router / Port issue.
Dart Pro needs Port 47141 open.
For information on Port Forwarding go here - http://www.portforward.com/english/r...outerindex.htm

Scroll down and select your Router Model from the list and follow the instructions.

Well I know it works because I have played against a few people from this forum before. My problem was that I could never host a game to challenge someone. Probably access rights on my router or something.

It's actually good software when it works, you are totally relying on the other person being honest with their scores though.

i do play against a friend most evenings first to 15 legs.hit a few 140s and checked out a few nice scores.
we have it chalked on the top of the board the highest checkout/score and it doesnt count unless were playing a compettive leg.makes for a bit of pressure when ya hit two trebles.160 is the highest score so far bit of a pulled last dart to say the least......:p

gonna try get all the announcements for dart pro cause they only call a few scores.
will i use the link posted above?

Yeah you just manually type it in and it's offline software so you don't need an internet connection.

I actually use software called Lets play darts. It's the best of the lot but I had to pay a small fee for it. It generates a html page with all the stats of your game when your finished including your averages etc and the score you hit with every 3 darts in every leg. It also allows you to play against the computer with various levels of difficulty. I think it's the best anyway.

Thanks dionsiseire, I managed to get those Russ Bray sounds working for my software too.

When you install the plugin open N01. Goto Game-->option-->Plugin tab.
Highlight the plug-in. Click property . Then on next screen browse to folder that contains all your .wav files and it should work.

I'm having the same problem, when i click the plug in tab there is nothing in the box and when i click browse i can't find the file in the place i saved it.

I got them working with n01 too. I was so eager to impress Russ that I was all over the shop. Didn't manage to get a 180 either.

The stats plug in is excellent too. I only just installed it but it has all the stats for anyone who's played since I installed the software, every single game.

That means you have not installed the plugin correctly.

    Go Here: LINK
    Scroll down to Plug-in section.
Install n01_caller Ver 0.0.2. There is a readme file with it that should tell you how to do install it (i think).

    Then follow steps above.

Man this is starting to annoy me now, am i stupid or what?

Anyway, i downloaded the plug in again, located it in the plug in tab in n01, clicked the properties tab but can't find the sounds which i downloaded last night. They are in my documents but wont appear when i search for them. Couldn't find the readme file either:rolleyes::)

That's okay. Just browse to the folder that contains the .wav files. Not the files themselves. In your case browse to My documents then click okay and then the sounds will work :)
