    Hi,

I've set up a group on facebook to help people send the government a message. Please click on the link below to have a look at this group. It is about applying pressure on the government to get Ireland competitive again so that we will be well positioned to benefit from new jobs growth when the recession is over.

In facebook "Groups" search for "Send the government a message"

If you agree with the group's message, please join and email your local TD a personal message. Also, to get this group going and to apply maximum pressure please invite your friends to join.

    Thanks a mil.

    Ciaran

Here's quick blurb on the group:- debate and ideas welcome but please don't join if you're views are diametrically opposing the cause.

"THE government is getting in the way of successful economic recovery with its recklessly high spending and borrowing. This non-stop spending and inflation will make us a high cost / uncompetitive place in which to do business and will place a terrible burden on future generations. The government deserve to be taken to task on this issue.

The government deficit in 2008 is now approx €12bn. Up until last year we had a national debt of around 30bn euros. The Taoiseach, Brian Cowen TD, says he needs 5 years to sort this out (Irish Times 4th Jan 09). That will mean more than doubling the national debt, something we can't afford.

The countries that we compete and trade with, like the USA and Germany, will come out of this downturn much more competitive than us. They are liquidating bad investment and are set to provide a stimulus package for our exports. As unemployment rises, wages and prices adjust downwards making countries competitive and creating the conditions for recovery. This is why an already high-cost Ireland cannot afford to further increase public spending, debt and pay. We are already the most over priced and expensive country in Europe
    ".
