Mid Size Car for 20k?

These threads are the range but looking for some inspiration...

Budget 15-20k Cash, no trade in.
Engine up to 2L.
1-3 year old.
Mileage < 40k.

I have had my day with bigger saloons so would prefer something smaller.
Never had a diesel but could be convinced even though I have low annual mileage.
Insurance not a big issue but hate paying high road tax.
Would like bit more speed/power than average motor but boy racer days behind me too. i.e. subtle

audi a4 sline. there the kind of car where the wow factors on the inside.

completely different car to what you would possibly assume before driving one.

You'd come very close to getting a 08 BMW 318D from the UK for the higher end of your budget, I was looking them up on Auto Trader yesterday, choice available for 14 - 15k sterling, low miles, VRT only 5k. Low tax aswell €156.

Looking at more the A3 size motor but seen some nice A4s with good spec for import. Looking at 3 series but not many Coupes here but kore in the UK.
Not sure about the Alfa.

Diesels seem better value for import with lower VRT.

Brand new new model accord petrol is listed at 33000. Less for cash. I would therefore assume that a relatively new old model accord could be had for your budget. especially in uk

Edit: Better than I thought, 2008 2.2 diesel accord £10500 to £11000 on autotrader. €5300 vrt

audis are strange cars in my opinion. never realised how good they are until i drove one myself. personally id rather the a4 but the a3 is just as good

fair enough there not as stylish as an alfa, but it depends on what you want in a car

people always compare audis to bmws. ive driven both and id much prefer an audi. definitely a more solid car

I'll be looking at cars in the same bracket when I next buy, and have been mooning over various options. My two preferred choices would be.

- Saab 9-3 Vector (2006)
- Honda Accord Diesel (2.2l) executive (2006)

Octavia RS 2L petrol. Used to own one and cant recommend it enough. Comfortable, spacious with understated looks and a nice nippy engine to go with it. Standard equipment is excellent and tax/insurance very reasonable.

Accord would have to be 2008 as difference in road tax for a 2007 is criminal.

True it does look like all the other hatches, but the photos on the site dont do it much justice.Blue one with the intercooler looks good imo.

Looking at the prices can get for 2.2L SE diesel maybe E18k VRT included with little more expensive in NI. The cheapest non-import listed on CarZone is E28k. :eek: At about 50% new price for ROI car seems to one of the bets value imports around.

You can pick up a nice 2006 2.0tdi audi a6 s sline, leather , 40k miles on ebay for 11k stg vrt 7500.

The new Impreza Diesel starts at €21 K and as far as I can see the pics above are the petrol the Diesel has the scoop as standard
