When did MTV ever play anything good? Was it not always just pandering to the current flavour of the month in a desperate attempt to keep up with what was 'cool' and 'hip'? :pac:

Natalie Casey on MTV Select yumm

    She was brilliant! :D

I liked her and Alex Zane because they just ripped the piss out of everything they were supposed to represent.
Another fella like that is Simon Amstell on Buzzcocks. I love how he tears down the brainless pseudo celebs he has on.

MTV is bollocks. They have an ad now that says "The M stands for Music". Seems a whole generation of viewers didn't realise that.

ahahahahaha the m stands for music!

That do rarely show music when I'm flicking through the music channels I just skip the first too. In all fairness why do they have an MTV +1, WHY?

Yo! MTV raps back in the early 90's was a historically important show for bringing a new fangled genre called "hip-hop" into the mainstream and was an outlet for up and coming acts to showcase their talent. Watching the young Tupac jumping around the studio singing his rhymes brings a smile to my face.

Today rap/r'n'b has become the "pop music" of this decade. Look at acts like Nelly Furtado, Madonna, Justin Timberlake - they're all getting black producers (eg Timbaland) to create their beats and every video has to feature a guest rapper to say a verse.

The huge influence of MTV on music culture, and youth culture for that matter, can't be denied and this is why it's so sad to see what the channel has declined into.

I wonder will things come full circle. I wonder will people eventually get sick of the sh1te on MTV and will real music played by real people become popular again. Everything seemed to start getting sh1te in the early 90s.
