Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm sure I'm not the first to have problems with Windows 7, so perhaps we can use this thread to help each other out.

I'm really liking it so far. Definitely going to make it my primary OS, but IU have two issues I need to get sorted before I'll be totally happy:

Networking: I put it on my workgroup for my home network, and when I go into My Network Places, it sees itself, and also my laptop which is running XP - I can read files from the laptop etc no worries. However, my laptop cannot see my Windows 7 PC at all. All it sees is itself. No idea how, but at one stage it was seeing the Win7 PC, but it wanted a username and password to access it - I don't have a password set but any guesses I tried failed. Now its not seeing it at all again.
    Any ideas?

The other annoyance is that LogMeIn will not work - has anyone else encountered this problem, or know how to fix it?

    Cheers

My first problem with it is the download page !
using firefox when i got to the download now button it wouldnt let me ! i had to open the page in IE.
This is going to be a LOOOOOONG road!

Well i claim 1st to have broken it here , installed it went to mess with back ground etc plugged in tv via vga and frooze.

Reboot i get basic graphic settings and when i try to change i gets a message saying i dont have permissions to do so after right clicking decktop.

Then i cant access my computer or change any other setting same error, so a rebuild later ang all is ok so far.

Annoyances are plenty but the os is faster maybe as if very little installed , example of annoyances msn is not in system tray anymore and when you click it over on the left you have to click again on one of the thumbnails, now playing view in mp12 isnt good and i havent found a way to get the controls on the task bar like 11 u have to hover over on the left and click on the next button :-(

edit : Good god is msn annoying if you have multiple chats , dont think ill get used to that too quickly

You can configure the taskbar to show a separate icon for each window of an application that has multiple windows if you want. Should make messenger a bit easier to use.

It's been a bit wobbley at times for me to. I've had the blue screen of death twice - wasn't really doing anything specific bar installnig some programs. A also when on pornhub if you go fullscreen the entire computer freezes and you have to cut the power... or at least that's what I hear...

Oh and that desktop preview thing i saw on the video's does not work for me...

win7 wont detect my wireless network, its detects all the other networks around (most of them are eircom like mine) ..

im trying a few things like changing the channel but no luck yet..its just not coming up , while in xp it connects straight away.

Are you using a non-standard router for your network? If so, try the netopia one if you've still got it. If not, check drivers for your wireless card. But then, this is a beta....

Is the SSID hidden, i.e. not being broadcast? If so, it's just like Vista, you have to set some option somewhere (can't remember where exactly right now) to allow it to connect to a network even if the SSID isn't being broadcast (which is a total waste of time anyway, but that's another matter).

XP will connect no matter whether the SSID is being broadcast or not.

I personally had v lil problem when it came to file sharing etc.
I added the W7 machine straight into a domain enviroment and the 2003 DC picked it up no problems and applied all settings to the machine, the WSUS server then updated the machine with no hastle so from a v (and I did say very) basic office setup / intigration it went smoothly.

Installing of software well thats on todays list of things to do. Steam is on it and playing as well as XP did, vista was slightly sluggish (I never was fond of the nvidia drivers/os setup).

My one huge bug with this along with most MS stuff is they go on about compatibility with previous versions of their OS and s/w that should run on it. They have once again fupped it up. Right clicking > properties > compatibility and selecting a old OS I think is just a time wasting exercise that MS throw in there to make you jump through hoops.

Oh as for wireless networking the guys have made some good points about the SSID not being broadcast, another option is chaning your security type on the network. I remember in the v early beta of Vista, when it was Longhorn, that the OS would only support no wireless encryption or WEP nothing else. No MAC no WPA nothing. It was annoying alright but MS aknowledged it more as a "we havent included that part yet" more than an actual flaw.

I'm getting Blue Screen Crashes all over the place right now...

I plugged in my externam hard drive, installed fine and I was copying some files across, got blue screen - now when I restart it won't find the drive at all!
    This sucks

Ponster, cheers tried that but didn't work...

where can you get a copy with a licence key, woun't mind booting it up in parells and see what happens...

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 4,726 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gonzovision

I've only had one blue screen so far. I didn't install any video drivers, Left 4 dead the only game I tried ran perfectly.

I think my main problem was of my own creation. I only gave the os 20gb. I thought that would be enough. So maybe another clean install of 64bit. What size partition did ye put the os on?

No, didnt get status bar. Went to sleep in about 10 seconds and another 10 to fully recover and come back.

Think the compatibility software is definitely better than Vista's and XP.
Couldn't install the 64bit driver for my logitehch G9..it automatically selected Vista as compatible OS and installed fine. Also had to do the same for Creative X-Fi drivers.
So far so good. Testing BF2+COD4 on it now to see what the fps are like.

Running win 7, and have yet to have any major issues, had it fail to boot once, but it went into "repair" mode and sorted itself out so that was grand. Really liking the OS at the mo, im running it on my netbook and it flies, any usb devices i've tried it recognised immediately and installed the drivers needed.
I get a status bar after hibernating, and it wakes up no bother.

It runs fine in VMWare (Fusion). Only got it to crash once!

Only problem (and it's a biggie) is that punkbuster doesn't recognise Win7 and kicks you on BF2/2142 and COD4 for "incorrect API function".
Known issue and there's currently a petition being signed to get punkbuster to update pb for Win7.

    http://www.petitiononline.com/pbwin7/petition.html

Framerates wise they're running the same as Vista in BF2/COD4 which is extremely good for a beta driver.

Weird is that COD5 works perfectly with Win7 as does BF2: Special Forces..

i find that windows update loads incorrect drivers for some devices ...had an issue with it not recognising my tv card. Had to disconnect it from the net to stop windows update kicking in after a uninstalled the drivers so that i could install the drivers i wanted.

I had to disable IPV6 and it took some more fiddling but I got it working in the end!

EDIT: Also I fixed the networking problem: I reset my username and password on Windows 7, then on the xp laptop I went into "View Workgroup Computers" and it works ok now
    Cheers

Hibernation is working grand for me. I also noticed they re-enabled it on 4GB of RAM, in Vista or XP 64-bit you can't hibernate if you have more than 3GB - they disabled it due to the amount of time it takes to hibernate and come back out. I'm using 64-bit Windows 7 btw.

Working fine with my home network

Actually upgraded a copy of Vista Business 32bit and it carried over all the credentials from Vista and works straight off.

I understand that the problem with logmein is universal and waiting for them to provide an update.

Other than that no problems. Everything that worked on Vista working fine including all the Dell software that came with the system.

    Very pleased so far.

It runs on machines that Vista could never hope to run on.

Well the minimum requirements reccomended by a couple sites seem a bit lower than vista anyway.

I just put Avast on Beta 7 to be sure but if the virtual OS got riddled with viruses could it affect my main computer?
