I think they are going purely for shock value now.

It is getting an awful slating in the UK papers.

    What are your thoughts?

    I hate Cook.
His character is SUCH a chav stereotype!

I love the whole Emily and Naomi storyline though,
    They're so cute together (:

Im really enjoying the show. And I think everybody hates Cook!

Next week is the last episode (already!) so it should be good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,649 ✭✭✭Catari Jaguar

I thought it was good tonight. The twins are fairly interesting and at least Katie has reason and history to her selfish bitchery. I enjoyed that Effy and Cook were absent from this episode and the others got to shine. It was sweet, honest and tied up some loose ends.

I've gotten fond of the characters (not Cook) and the show but it is like a totally different show.

I feel as though it is:
Season 1: New, funny, sweet bumbling characters, kind of crazy, semi realistic
Season 2: More well rounded, fleshed out characters, real issues, emotion, a bit depressing but only because we cared for the characters
Season 3: took all the crazy teen friendly parts like the sex, drugs and parties. The same love triangle stuff as season 1 and 2 is in this season. It seems more menacing and darker yet the themes are irrelevant.

I think the last episode is next Thursday no?

    ya last one next week....

the twins esp was really good... i have a small thing for emms tho.. :o the twins languge was interesting... we all know twins are more linked but it was a good to see it... the power struggle between them was good to watch... id say every set of twins have that at some point of there lives... same with every relationship....

Yeah he was class! I recognised him from being on The Panel a couple of times.

    "Get Fitch not Fit"

"If they're not still virgins when they'll get back i'll hunt you down"

And J.J's nervous confession in their living room. Brilliant!

I thought that that was the best episode yet this season. It was really well done. The twins are the most interesting characters. Their family was good. The father was class as was and their mother to an extent. But their little brother James was fantastic "Gordon McPierson says that you call them Dykes, because you have to stick your finger in them."

Even new minor characters like the two employees in the clothes shop were well done. Thought the music this episode suited it too.

Strange relationship between JJ and Emily, wonder if that's going anywhere, or is she really a lesbian at all?

Erm no it was Emily's slightly fatter twin he was with.

"Erm no" yourself,he slept with Emily, the lesbian. She just did it because he was a virgin or whatever daft reason they come up with.

personally i thinks this season has just been bad the whole way through, the writing is just rubbish, i cringe when i watch it (i have been watching every ep as it is just car crash tv, i can't keep my eyes off it).
the writers have missed some geniune oppertunitys i.e. after the house party with pandora and cook was the perfect moment to show he had a good side and wasn't just motivated by his cock. its a real shame because the actor Jack O'Connell is actually really talented as can be seen in "This is England" and "Eden Lake" but the writers just continue to give him rubbish. its a crime.but also something that is a repated offence for skins-example anwar was the most under used and under developed character last time and look at where dev patel is now, with some proper writing and some proper directing he showed everybody that he is actually very talented.

J.J and Pandora are the two most annoying and rubbish characters this may also be because they are played by the two least talented actors in the show, they just always look uncomfortable (as actors not characters) and the fact that they are given s**t on a page to read from doesnt help.

i have yet to see a good ep this season and dont hold much hope for the finale. I can't belive any of their staff writers still have a job. or even still want to work on skins as they must be ashamed of them selves by now.

Whats even worse is that it looks so good, visualy it is really pleasing, sadly it's just a glossy cover.

He was basically a mute in that film!

but he is awsome in Eden Lake.

and being a good actor isn't about having the most lines its about being belivible within the part, which he was in This is England.

So what did people think of the finale? Not much of a cliff hanger I must say. Bored to tears of that little tramp Effy and her lurve triangle.

So disappointing! Was expecting something WAY better!

I've been trying to keep an open mind with this series, but that finale was just terrible!

How can they have a finale without the majority of the main cast in it. We only had Effy, Freddy, JJ & Cook and no references whatsoever to Naomi, Emily, Katie, Thomas or Pandora???
    Lame.

    Lame.

Well, there wasnt really much point having Emily or Namoi in it. Their story finished in the last episode. Same with Thomas & Pandora as well.

Didnt like this series. It seemed to try too hard or something. Characters didnt seem to develop as smoothly as previous series as well. Like, We hardly saw Thomas in the whole series. And compared to series 1 finale, this one was awful!

Considering they are all very annoying,it is hard to tell them apart! :)

Shockingly bad finale by the way, just awful!

Well, after 10 episodes, we can conclude that Freddy is a tool, Effie is a gobs**te, Cook is nothing short of a complete and utter a**ehole, JJ is a bit of a plonker, but otherwise alright, and the rest of them might as well not be in it at all. Out of these 10 episodes, 4 were utterly crap, 4 were so-so, and 2 were what you might call good.

Overall, I'd give this series 1.5 out of 10. I only kept watching it because I was a fan of the originals, and thought this might get better. I also hate giving up on a show, especially when it's gone beyond it's first series.

    Lame.

Just going backwards through the thread here. Considering that the finale was titled "Everyone", it was incredibly lame to have more than half of everyone missing from it entirely. That whole love quadrangle was just awful.

in fairness it's the third series of the show, theyre all unknowns cast from myspace..and i like Cooks arc in the series..once you see his da you understand everything..that last moment where he tells him he never wanted him..plus Cook Jnr is a little lash so he can stay :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,099 ✭✭✭Dean820

The ending was like the writers saying 'we know we f*cked up the series and we know that you know too' kind of ending.

...Or they were trying to pull a Sopranos.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 495 ✭✭dimejinky99

well they cant get the original cast back and it'd be **** if they did..can only hope they do better next series.

complete and utter load of bollocks waist of time. That's all I can say. I didn't start watching skins till about 6 months ago. I watched season one and two online in about a week, feel in love with it and made it one of my favs.

What attracted me was how well developed and interesting the characters were. It was actually an interesting teen drama...none of the usual blonde bimboness 90210/The OC crap. The characters weren't shallow little ****es. They were bumbling along, not so smooth, crap with the parents next to normal teens going through usually normal teen things. The whole feel of the show was kind of sweet.

Season 3 doesnt resemble that in the slightest. Skins has become another crap teen drama. Like someone else said...it was all flash. We had gratuitous teen sex stories, the stereotypical lesbian falling in love wit hthe straight girl who has to decide what she is and who she wants to be with, the most painful and cringeworthy love quad.....wtf?? A little violence, some drugs for show, a couple scary moments to grab your attention......and at the bottom of all this it was pure fluff crap with nothing that even closely resembles substance.

Not to mention all that happened the entire season was everyone fighting. The first episode showed Katie and Emily fighting, then Katie and Naomi fighting, Effy deciding whether fighting with Katie was worth it.....the three boys competing and then fighting over Effy...

The rest of the season? Everyone just fought with each other. no one seemed to be happy ever. Not for a second. Even the effing feel good couple of the group Pandora and Thomas spent most of the time angry and not talking ot each other.

I'm sorry If I had spent a year of college fighting with all teh friends around me I would have just ditched them all and found new friends....

PS. The finale was so boring, I actually had no interest. Ended up shagging through it....much more fun imo. ;)

They opted for the lame American style happy ending with everyone getting along. Not too pleased with that.

oh great, another episode with that tampon cook. Great

effy, jesus, totally not worth the effort wtf like?

As soon as the race started, i knew JJ Would win.

What a **** ending, sailing into the sunset all mates again.

<3 naomi. I really felt for her. and she was fit, they need more of her.

Pretty muck episode tbh. Lost interest in it half way through. The ending was awful and summed up this season. Not looking forward to the next season.

Did anyone else see just after cook pushed his dads into the water near the end there is a wide shot of the boat when cook hugs freddy and you can quite clearly see a cameraman and a hand in the interior of the boat

The level of how bad a show is, can easily be measured by the number of continuity goofs that are spotted. Why is that you say? Well, if you're spotting these things then obviously the plot, story, characters, etc are not really grabbing you. Carroller16 gets the ball rolling by spotting a camera man on the boat, lets see what else we can find. There might actually be some entertainment to be had in that series after all...

Ah well the average age of the people putting the show together is 21! It's mostly media students and such. The had auditions for people to come forward to direct, make music, work the camera, editing direction, script etc. It's good for what it is.

    It's blatantly not.

If they held auditions...then this season of skins is a good example of how little talent britain has going out at the moment...

    Third season was a disappointment.
I kept watching all the way thru, but was pretty much a waste of my time - started with a love triangle [JJ isn't REALLY included, is he? never really stood a chance if ya ask me.. :(] and ended with a love triangle.

There's not a chance in hell that any guys would jump thru as many hoops as they did for Effy..
Plus, if you hit someone in the head with a rock, you're going to jail, my friend.

Oh no way! It's 18's for a reason. Even the cast are too young for half the sh1t they do on that show!

Well there was that episode with pandora's party. They found a 'secret' passage into the house next door where pandora's mother and the man next door used to film themselves shagging... yet in every shot of the house it's seen as a detatched house.

    Lazy tbh.

I would say 15+, at a minimum. A 12-year old should not be watching this. Not just because of the graphic portrayal of sex, drug and alcohol abuse, and violence, but season 3 was just ****.

Thinking back, I'm still disappointed with that series.

that is a very sweeping statement, and shows that you really don't know what your talking about.
I did my degree in film in england and i know several very talented writers who entered the comp to become a staff writer for skins, but the people who judged were obviously looking for more of the same and people who would be easely moulded instead of someone who would bring something fresh and new to the show.
anyway i don't see a problem with the way the show is directed, more often than not the direction is solid, its the writting and acting that let the show down.
