    Why are tom cats so unfriendly and cranky, you seldom hear of them being kept as pets.

    Probably better posted in Animals & Pets - where you will probably find lots of people have pet tom cats! I presume you mean un-neutered tom cats - I suspect its probably due to all their hormones making them competitive and territorial.

    I have 2 neutered male cats and they are both little sweeties however (and they aren't allowed to roam and kill birdies, however they have managed to get mice on occasion in the garden).

    I have a tom cat and he's friendlier than my female.

    Loads of people have toms. :)
