hi my sister is thinking of doing a masters degree in maths/physics next september(she will have a joint honours hopefully by then!)

just wondering how to go about getting funding for a masters in this area.

would it be from the government or would companies sponsor?

she is thinking of doing it here in ireland but does anyone have any information about getting irish funding for completing her masters abroad?

also any information on deadlines would be perfect.

    thanks a million!

    Hi Sarah,

The deadline for the maintenance grant is meant to be the last working day of August this year (and every year). There were plans talked about moving this date but nothing has been released as far as I know, but it's worth keeping an eye and ear open in the summertime. For postgraduates you can only get a grant if you're pursuing a postgraduate course in Ireland (inc. NI, I think).

For funding on top of that there are various ways, but the best one would be to talk to your supervisor about any links he would have in the field. Chances are thought companies would only finance you if you were doing a research masters instead of a taught masters though, but it's still worth looking at. There's also IRCSET / IRCHSS.
