Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Vista Game user profile information

I re-installed and re-ran microsoft Gears of War the other night which crashed twice (though it did re-find the compulsory microsoft profile which the game was originally setup with).

Then, later I tried counterstrike source and it said 'Steam could not connect to the network' (the PC is an offline PC and will be a pain to get re-connected. All steam games (HL2, ep2, etc) were fully downloaded and set 'not to update' and this has not been a problem before, it just plays in offline mode. Now none of them work.

I then tried COD 4 which has also lost the user profiles (this was completed on hard mode).

I know I will have to re-connect and probably re-download some of the steam game components and also have to re-play COD4 through to completion to get arcade mode etc but can anyone tell me where this information is stored ?

Other games like Doom 3 are fine so I am guessing that only some titles store vista pc game profile information in the same place.

Next time I would like to back it up in case I accidentally play a microsoft game which knackers the Vista PC in future.

cod4 on vista stores the save game/profile in a hidden folder.

a quick google will show you how to display it...off the top of my head I cant remember the exact path.

^^ thats if you have not bought it via steam.

All yer steam game info [saves etc] is stored in your steam folder arent they?

COD 4 is the retail version - I will go googling for the profile location for that one later. Thats what I thought too about Steam too - the steam ones were all shop bought too (cept downloaded demos etc).

I think either its some kind of hidden 'shared vista game profile' folder location or it's a branch of registry keys that got zapped. it's odd though that all steam and COd4 were knacked immediately after a ms game crashed though.
