I'm in Louth, having serious issues with connection timeouts since about 7pm. I didn't read through the thread, am I correct to assume that the problem is on Eircom's end?

You almost certainly are Spiral! At this point I'd probably put my gaff on it that the problems on their end!

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,068 ✭✭✭✭My name is URL

What a joke, why are they limiting speeds all of a sudden? This just started for me yesterday. My line stats are quite good, I literally live next door to the exchange!

    52l8ug.png

Kind of sucks that connectivity is been purposely decreased at peak times even though my line is capable of high speeds.

Really does suck Spiral. No other option than to call complaints (most likely you've already done this several times) - anyone who doesn't have it the number is 1800200481.

how you lodged a complaint? What did they say to you?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36 fran)))

Phone them up with your line number, account details etc.
The staff in the complaints department are actually the easiest of the lot to deal with in my experience - just explain your situation - tell them the problems you've been having, for how long etc etc.
They'll arrange for an operations manager to call you back (will take a few days). When you get your callback they'll tell you what the situation is with yer line (to the best of their ability - mine still isn't fixed) and may offer you some credits - which would at least be something.
One thing to mention is people have a tendency to be dicks when they've reached the point of having to call up complaints - because they've been through upteen pointless phone calls already - i'd advise anyone callin them up to be nice tho, otherwise they will have very little interest in dealing with your case.

All of this is only my experience - I'm sure people have different stories about dealing with the complaints department.
    Hope it helps.

Where is this all happening? Is it nationwide or just Portlaoise?

    Is it all contention?

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

Seems to be affecting people all over the south east/midlands.

Like there was any doubt :p
Like I said in the other thread Rorser - if magnet (or anyone else for that matter) was available I'd switch in a heartbeat. I think I can get Magnet but its a standard DSL connection only in my area which i think will still be using the eircom lines and therefore will still have the latency issues - hence my problems will not be solved. By all means let me know if you know something I don't.

Well there seems to be a lot of people on here....they cant all be on the Athy exchange.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36 fran)))

I'm pretty sure the problems I am talking about are related to the Portloaise exchange.
Am i correct in saying that there is in fact no Magnet connection available in Athy which would solve my latency problems?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,831 ✭✭✭Lucutus

On the Kilcullen exchange myself, so I'd imagine many smaller exchanges in the midlands are fed back upstream to portlaoise as it's a larger 'hub'?

The problems which are affecting that exchange might effectively be experienced in many other exchanges where similar equipment is used since their 'upgrade' to 7Mbs+?

I do concede that other people posting on this thread who do not route back through portlaoise may just be jumping on the bandwagon here though, it's a possibility.

BT support today discouraged me from contacting them for updates as to how they're getting along with Eircom as if they explain the latency issues in detail, Eircom will simply state that a level of service for their network's latency are not guaranteed and they will not address those types of issue.

This is even more frustrating, both for myself and BT support as the only thing they can do is log a fault on the line (noise ) through whatever automated system they have for logging faults with Eircom. Waste of time imo.

Rorsor, what Magnet options are available in Kilcullen? Gief Fibre!

That appears to be exactly what is happening.
All myself and others are wondering is can anyone offer an alternative? Or news on the status of the Portlaoise exchange upgrade?

Last night I thought they were setting about fixing it.
I think they have two problems at the moment.

    1. Overloaded links (e.g out of Portlaoise for example)

    2. DNS problems (which I believe are still not sorted yet)

I presume last nights f*ckups were due to them trying to sort the DNS issues.

    Where's Grommet gone?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,631 ✭✭✭✭Hank Scorpio

the 2 nights my ping is has been ok is the nights when everyone was having DNS issues, it makes sence, less traffic so my ping wasnt 700 but 20 :)....

    Heres a interesting link http://www.siliconrepublic.com/news/article/12126/comms/dangerous-storm-wreaks-havoc-across-eircoms-network

However my problems have been present for the past 3 months.

The extremly strange thing is when i ping netherland IPs there in the mid 30s ( all day / any time ) however everywhere else is 400 +

Its obviously a problem of overloaded servers/routers, people keep mentioning portloaise? Also when my boards.ie ping is fine my .de (germany) pings are fine even tho they take 2 totally different routes

    Very confusing stuff
