Nope, I'm on 3Mb too. I was on 7 meg but my line won't go any faster than 3Mb anyway, so I got them to downgrade me. Didn't reduce my ping any at the time though.

    hi stephen

you should ring them and tell them to put you back on low interleaving datapath instead of high interleaving on your 3mb line, though i would 100% settle for the pings your getting at the moment considering mine

Friend has just signed up to Eircom`s 7Mb package and is reporting V E R Y pedestrian performance.
Its an 045 40xxxxx number so prob Naas exchange ?

Customer service waffling on about firewall issues etc but her daughters laptop fares no better.

I know it`s a new package deal,so could the marketing be just a wee bit ahead of the engineering in this case ??

Good luck with that nuxx - let us know how you get on.

I'm just off the phone with our good friends Eircom Broadband technical support. I asked if they had any status update on the exchange upgrade in Portlaoise.
The guy put me on hold for a good while while he spoke to a manager.
When he came back he apologised that he had no information except that "work is ongoing".
Said he couldn't give a timeline as to when they expect to have the congestion problems sorted.
I told him that I was gettin tired of waiting indefinately while they try fix the problems and asked him if there was anything they could do or could he offer me any advice - ie. would changing back to the 3mb line help at all etc etc. but he just said he was very sorry but to maybe "call back in a month".
    It's gettin ridiculous.

Eircom have advertised these services and customers are paying for them.
It is now apparent that they were in no way prepared to deal with actually providing the services advertised in the first place. And this is the mess we have now. Load of BS.

everyone with a problem that is not being sorted out should ring them up or write to them at the same time asking to cancel as the service is not as described! this might get then moving on a solution?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36 fran)))

Not a bad idea foggy lad.
Their line at the moment is that they are doing everything the can to get problems sorted. Which is great and all but again,
if they didn't have the capabilities to provide the services then it was unfair of Eircom to advertise them.
Get yer pens and paper out.

i totally agree with both of you , its just not on and the more we complain to them the quicker they will realize that they are not dealing with fools !!!

    Hi Steve,

what you are seeing is contention on the DSLAM or a bad phoneline causing you a bad connection. It's not a problem with not enough transmission bandwidth, what the lads in Portlaoise are seeing.

What package are you on, what are your linestats ?

im on the 7.6mb broadband from eircom

just to show the swings in my ping, it can be perfect for a few seconds then just go bad again

This is very weird - I'm getting the same symptoms as Lucutus, i.e. reboot my router a few times to get an IP address in a different subnet, and bam! Back to low ping goodness.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 36 fran)))

Aye tis quite odd. Tried the same thing on my end but no such luck - ping stays over the 400ms mark to boards.ie
Restarting or resetting seemed to make no difference.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,831 ✭✭✭Lucutus

Aye, tonight I was lucky, only had to restart my router 6 times, (20 mins or so), to get onto a proper ping.

Seems to work better if you leave it off for a minute or so and then reconnect.

I'm sure that 20 minutes isn't fun but at least you can trip over some decent ping eventually.

Not really a great long term solution for you tho.

I'm sure if you ring tech support and tell them your having to restart your router 6 times every night to get a decent ping they'll probably tell you you've uncovered the secret to the mystic knights of etihs dnabdaorb and award you with some free music downloads or something.

Last night I thought they were setting about fixing it.
I think they have two problems at the moment.

    1. Overloaded links (e.g out of Portlaoise for example)

    2. DNS problems (which I believe are still not sorted yet)

I presume last nights f*ckups were due to them trying to sort the DNS issues.

    Where's Grommet gone?

Hi Zug - I'm here - but not on line every day.
Yep - the issues the other night were definitely DNS related. Nothing to do with congestion etc.
As mentioned above - the Portlaoise BRAS link has been upgraded so should be better tonight.

( b-ras1.wtd.waterford.eircom.net ). You'll be happy to hear that the connection from that server was upgraded this morning as well. So fingers crossed, you should be seeing big improvements from this evening.
