Seems stable here too, have restarted a few times. Pings have jumped from 15ms to 60ms, but I think that's unrelated, (downgraded again today to see if it would help... likely higher interleaving enabled).

    Thanks for the news grommet.

Let's see how the next week goes.

Lol. Get on to BT? You should know of all people, that that doesn't work mate...

I tried ringing them ages ago (after the upgrades) to see if they'd lower my interleaving.

First thing they tried was the 'are you sure its the line? fancy running 4hrs of tests?' gimmick. I cut that shtuff out fairly fast. He went off the line for a minute then came back and told me I couldn't request lower interleaving, and that it PHYSICALLY WASNT POSSIBLE. At this point I was sick of this guy. Then he told me I'd either have to downgrade, or wait for 24mb, yet he had no idea when it'd happen, as that was up to eircom.

i wonder wat made eircom fix there problem :s. . . . . . and how they fixd it so fast in some places. i was expectring one place = 1 week . another = 1 week etc... it seems a few of us got up graded at the one time. was this grommets doing? or boards doing ?>... or constant complaints

Pings are much better this weekend in Kilcullen (Portlaoise exchange), finally got to get some games in. It's a shame that we needed to use boards to get information on what's happening. An information page on the Eircom site with news of upgrades/known issues would avoid a lot of negative feelings from their customers. Fair play to Grommett, thanks for the updates.

No, it wouldn't. A proper bloody service being provided from day 1 would avoid a lot of negative feelings from customers. Tell me, what good is a web page telling me that somewhere the other side of the country is being upgraded/fixed on XX date, when I'm in Y and have a ping of >200ms to Ireland.

People in NL have bloody 28ms ping to Ireland!!!

I'm going to go flipping insane...

You'd have an idea if it's a known issue and if so when they plan to resolve it. The people on the Portlaoise exchange for example. I never said it was the solution to all the problems, but it would help.

Just thought I'd throw my hat in as well.

I'm connected to the Shankill exchange (south dublin) and am on the 7.6mbps service.

Speeds have absolutely crashed during the day/evening.

I could go on and on but it's all been said before.
I've rang them up and they've just told me it's contention ratio and that was the end of that conversation.

I'm just nervous of switching providers as I a) have received an excellent service from Eircom for the last few years and don't really want to leave them, but b) everyone piggy backs on the eircom network and i'd be worried my problems will just continue whether i connect up to another ISP or not.

Anyway, just thought i'd let you know it's not just a problem in the midlands.

    nelly

Hi Zug - I'm here - but not on line every day.
Yep - the issues the other night were definitely DNS related. Nothing to do with congestion etc.
As mentioned above - the Portlaoise BRAS link has been upgraded so should be better tonight.

    Cheers Grommet,
Like the others who's traffic routes through Portlaoise things are back to normal for me now as well.

I'm now down to ~60ms pings to dublin.

It's better than it was, but there's no reason why it's not ~30-40 imo

It's atleast usable now though \o/

Just a bump, I was wondering if people still have this issue, as I still have a very poor service after 7pm ish, I have spoke to UTV a few times about it, they changed my profile a few times speedwise to try and help, currently sync'ing at 4Mb, I also have tried another two routers with the same issue, my speed is perfect until the evening time...it must be contention/congestion???.....I cannot post a speedtest result as I'm at work. Anybody have any joy with this issue?

I may be able to check for you - but I need to know what exchange you are on.

Remember - contention or congestion will happen on specific locations in the network - it is usually not something that is network wide. So either it will be at the DSLAM or an aggregation point (e.g. BRAS) or it could be at one of the ISP's peering or transit connections. If you let me know where you are I can try to find out if there is any known congestion local to you.
