    Little help needed please,

Have a 2G iphone (pawned) with 2.1 Software

The phone does not sync anymore on USB (Not Recognised by windows or MAC)

consequently it doesn't charge either - connectors are clean etc - tried a few sets of cables and direct wall mounted chargers.

It charges via FireWire Cable, and strangely charges via USB when the phone is powered off.

is it possible that the software has disabled USB on the phone?
Is there anyway to check via ssh

    phone otherwise works great

efforts to get in via DFU have failed..

    You shouldn't have pwned it.

Despite this you still be able to restore it. Put the phone into recovery mode and restore it from there from the original version of the iPhone, not a pwned version.

    * Disconnect your iPhone from your Mac or Windows computer.
    * Press and hold the sleep/wake and home buttons simultaneously for about 20-30 seconds, until you see a yellow triangle with an exclamation point in the middle accompanied by the text "Please Connect to iTunes."
    * Connect your iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes if it does not automatically launch.
    * You should see the below image

Then the above problem wouldn't have happened and if it did it would be covered by warranty. Now Apple won't touch it.

Oh, so you're saying the problem was caused by pwning it? Why?

Thats a hard question to answer but essentially you are doing something with the phone that is not backed with the manufacturer, like if you had a Honda but want to see how it would run if you put the engine you made yourself in it.

Its not like that at all
its not like putting ina new engine its like getting a car with a speed limiter on it and disbabling that, the engine is the same your just getting more out of it

and secondly its a first generation iphone so is most likely more than a year old and would then not be covered by the warranty anyways

Fair enough :) some people might see it that way.

but even if it was not in Warrenty Apple would still repair it ( at a price on the out of warranty service ) they won't if it is Jailbroken

OP you say it works for charging by firewir and usb have you tried to connect it another PC and does the other pc register it as a device and begin installingthe needed drivers?

Im just wondering if its a problem at the pc end rather than the phone
