Well any weekday night suits me - weekend nights (Fri, Sat, Sun) generally do not as I wont be in Cork

Ok so we still have 8 people signed up for the pool competition. If no one else signs up by later tonight then this is how the competition will line up:


First Round:
Player 1 vs Player 7 (Winner becomes Player A)
Player 2 vs Player 6 (Winner becomes Player
Player 3 vs Player 5 (Winner becomes Player C)
Player 4 vs Player 8 (Winner becomes Player D)

Second Round:
Player A vs Player D (Winner becomes Player X)
Player B vs Player C (Winner becomes Player Y)

Final:
Player X vs Player Y

I could have drawn that but I got too lazy!!

I'll pick the first four names out of a hat this evening (Players 1 - 4) and Players 2-8) tomorrow.

If anyone else signs up by 11pm tonight then I will be modifying the matches slightly....something like Player 9 will have to play player 8 and the winner goes into the first round. Yes it means they would have one extra match than anything else but there is nothing I can do unless we can get 16 people.....which is prob impossible by 11pm tonight!!

So have you decided on the number of frames?
Ie just one for the rounds and a final best of 3
Or best of 3 with a final of best of five?

My preference would be the second option as it avoids flukey wins but it will take more time (prob need 2 tables) and the winnings would not cover the lights

Ok so I took four names out of a hat..........so the line up so far is:

corkhero (Player 1) vs ???? (Player 7)
kingtut (Player 2) vs ???? (Player 6)
parvus (Player 3) vs ???? (Player 5)
Tommy1979 (Player 4) vs ???? (Player 8)

Find out who players 5 - 8 are tomorrow

I never really thought about it being more than one frame but I have to say I love your idea! So +1 from me. What do the other contestants think??

Sorry - should have been clearer for people not familiar with pool slang !
"The Lights" means the charge for the table at the end of the night, cause when you pay they turn on the lights
The mardyke costs around €12 an hour AFAIK

Hmmmm...interesting.

I'd agree with milk da man about best of three frames avoiding fluking wins-it seems fairer and I would go with that. Though I am exceptionally flukey, so along with the best of 3, it may take a wooden stake and garlic to eliminate me.:pac:

It looks like it will be difficult to get everyone together for their first round matches so I think the best thing for people to do is to organise their best of 3 match with their opponent by themselves. Pick the place and time that suits you both and then post it here. That way if anyone from boards is free they can come along. For the final we can try and get as many people watching it as possible.

Any thoughts / suggestions ?
