Big congrats to Kilkenny's Jeremy Hickey aka Rarely Seen Above Ground, who's just been nominated for the Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of 2008.

He's the first Kilkenny man to get nominated for the prize so here's hoping he goes on to win it.

The full list of nominees are as follows:

    1. Fight Like Apes - Fight Like Apes and the Mystery of the Golden Medallion (Model Citizen)
    2. Mick Flannery - White Lies (EMI)
    3. Halfset - Another Way of Being There (Casino Gravity Records)
    4. Lisa Hannigan - Sea Sew (Own label)
    5. David Holmes - The Holy Pictures (Canderblinks)
    6. Jape - Ritual (Co-Op)
    7. Messiah J & The Expert - From The Word Go (Inaudible)
    8. Oppenheimer Take The Whole Mid-Range And Boost It (Fantastic Plastic)
    9. R.S.A.G. - Organic Sampler (Psychonavigation)
    10. The Script - The Script (Sony Music)

congrats to him, is it voted on by the public or judges? if it's public I presume the script will walk away with it tbh

There's a panel of judges alright so he's in with a good shout.

If it was the public, there might as well not be any other nominees, The Script would have it sewn up for sure.

That's good at least he has some sort of chance, Script will probably still get it though( I loathe them)

Agreed. That list is full of brilliant acts, but sadly the script will probably still win (through virtue of being watered down, mainstream pop).

Hope he does well, though i'd be happy to see the prize go to lisa hannigan or mick flannery either.

Mick Flannery is the current odds on favourite to win with Lisa Hannigan following.

RSAG is the outside bet at 16-1 at the moment so it could be worth a flutter.

In the 3 years since this prize started up the favourite has never won so nothing's a surefire bet where this competition is concerned.

Good luck to Mr. Hickey but I have my fingers crossed for FLA. I'm not sure why David Holmes is in there though.... that album was a disapointing one for moi.
