My favourite A7X album is still Waking The Fallen, I haven't listened to much of them in a good while though. Never really been a fan of BFMV.

I get you max, I suppose a lot of what I listen to could be similar in that way, I like heavy but I like melody :)

Wish I was going too angron, should be a good show. Don't know the next gig I'll be going to.

Suffocation will be the first band I've seen 3 times, hopefully Frank will be there this time. He was sick for their last show, so I think it was the lead for Decrepit Birth that stood in.

I have a craving for Japanese food right now :o

    Hey everyone.

Must give Sushi a go sometime, Links. Do you like it?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Never had sushi myself, I've been meaning to try it some time.

Hey, Angron. Yeah, been meaning to go to a proper Japanese restaurant and indulge in their delights but it's the thought of raw fish that keeps be from actually following through. :D

You know on some Metal forums, which I won't mention, you would get slated for admitting to liking said bands.

That's fair enough, couldn't really give a damn myself. I like who I like, that's good enough for me. Good thing we don't get much of that here though :pac:

That's true, it's rare but you do get the odd poster around here with an elitist agenda. There was a thread there where somebody essentially berated some posters as being 'ignorant' about Metal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,944 ✭✭✭✭Links234

Yeah, I like sushi but there's so much more to Japanese food :) there's loads of sushi that doesn't have raw fish too, you can get teriyaki chicken sushi, or vegitarian sushi, whatever :D

I'd probably get slated on quite a few metal forums for the stuff I like, but screw 'em. who the hell even says someone is 'ignorant' about metal, it's not like a maths test, there's no right or wrong way to listen to music. >_<

Well, you can be ignorant about it, it depends.

e.g saying "reign in blood is the best thrash album ever" when you've only heard albums from the big four.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,944 ✭✭✭✭Links234

but 'best' is entirely subjective, isn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,148 ✭✭✭Passenger

saying "reign in blood is the best thrash album ever" when you've only heard albums from the big four.

Well it's more the people who listen to specific genres/bands of the older/obscure/extreme variety and then lambast anybody to would listen to 'mainstream' Metal, etc.

Well you just have to see how some elitists thrust their opinions upon others by hijacking threads about more mainstream acts and insisting that they are more erudite because they listen to Metal that is little known.

I know what you're on about Passenger, but I don't want to comment on anyone in particular, it's a viewpoint that I don't get in general. whenever people go on about how what they listen to is more obscure, it comes across as hipster-ish and insecure :o

Exactly. It's like they view listening to Metal as being beyond just enjoying music but being a subscription to a subculture and they feel that they have to validate themselves by denigrating others who don't meet their self imposed criteria to be 'Metal'.

Is talking about particular offenders against Mod rules? ;)

To a point yes, but I'd consider anyone who listens to a variety of genres and non-mainstream groups as having a more worthy opinion than someone who only listens to popular or well known bands, you know.

No, I just think it would be mean and rude to talk about someone in particular, when it's just the general attitude I mean. and I don't want to be exclusionary to someone who's just come along either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,148 ✭✭✭Passenger

    Fair point. ;)

Gonna have a mug a tea and a nice German pastry now. Rock 'n Roll or what?! :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,944 ✭✭✭✭Links234

    very \m/

I've got the guitar out again so I'm sitting down now with the aim of practicing a bit. I find I have a serious attention problem, I lack focus or discipline when trying to play or learn something, and I don't know how to fix that :o

I was just playing Borderlands 2, Krieg is fun :D Running at things wielding a buzz axe, and killing stuff gives you health.

Also, I was in a Japanese restaurant before, Yamamori, and they did an amazing steak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,148 ✭✭✭Passenger

Ah yes. The traditional Japanese dish; Steak. :P

Hey, you're talking to Mr. Steak here. :D I love my steak. I was in Yamamori years ago but I can't remember what I had there.

    How was it cooked?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Rare, the best way to have steak :D

I think it was the teriyaki I had Links.

I was looking funny at the blue guitar for about 2 minutes thinking there was something really off about it before I realized it was one of those ones with angled frets. :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,944 ✭✭✭✭Links234

Some virus or other so she couldn't give me anything.

Last night was an excuse for a hot whiskey tho :)

Never been to the grand social, what's it like?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,677 ✭✭✭Zwillinge

    Oh no :( Damn virals!!

Hope you pick up now! But yay - hot whiskey!

I've never been to the Venue part of The Grand Social before, it's a nice area, good sound also :) Decent smoking area too, not that I smoke, but it was nice to sit with a roof over my head ;)

My experience of places in Dublin extends to about 5 places :pac: I've been to Club Hell for the Tattoos and Piercings beers, Fibbers, The Pint, Whelan's, and once in the George when my friend insisted we had to try it :P The Pint and Whelan's are the main gig venues though, and I'm going to The Pint tonight.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

Just saw it now, it seems kind of funny that this will be the third time I've seen Suffocation, but I'll only have seen them with their actual vocalist once. John Gallagher from Dying Fetus will be doing the vocals tonight apparently, not that I'm complaining about that :D

Get better asap, Links. Hopefully you'll be feeling yourself again and be able to enjoy the weekend. :) And give your missus her dues too. ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 20,944 ✭✭✭✭Links234

she's getting huge dues, especially seeing as she was down with the same thing. tuesday it was me minding her, and all she had to say was about how great I was looking after her. I said she'd do the same for me ;)

been watching that episode of Gordon Ramsey's kitchen nightmares that's gone viral atm. you guys heard about that? nuts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,148 ✭✭✭Passenger

well, I'm actually awake today :)

I thought that because I slept until after 5 yesterday, I wouldn't be able to sleep last night, but nope! I was out like a light. I still feel like hell, hacking up a lung this morning and all aches, shivers and headaches, but at least I feel a bit more perky and rested :D

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,126 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

What's this Kitchen Nightmares with the cat one? I've watched a few episodes of that, but didn't hear about that one.

Just back home now after the concert I was at yesterday, Cephalic Carnage reminded me why I love them :D For their song "Black Metal Sabbath" they take the piss out of BM, two of them wear clear plastic masks with corpsepaint style stuff in marker on it, the bassist wears a horse head mask, one of the guitarists wore something like a Batman mask that looked like it had glitter on it, and the drummer had something that looked a bit similar but I didn't get a good look at it.

Has anyone else checked out the tv series Hannibal?

I had been hearing some good things and just started watching it. 3 episodes in and it's amazing! Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen are both excellent in their respective roles. Seriously good so far!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,148 ✭✭✭Passenger

    Hey all.

Been meaning to check it out, Dr. Poca. Purely as Mads Mikkelson is a terrific actor.

He really is. The character is so calm yet menacing... And a great contrast to the character of Will Gragham. Definitely worth checking out. Not to mention some of the murder scenes could be death metal album covers :D
