    YMNV-1.jpg

I got the special edition with the documentary, which actually worked out cheaper than the regular edition because they had a pre-order offer 30% off. :)

Kinda bittersweet as they're gone now :o

Ah very good. I only have one album of theirs that I got years ago. Noble. Been meaning to get more of their stuff.

What's the best album do you think?

Possibly Holy Grail. But you can't really go wrong. ;)

Grand. Just listening to some Porcupine Tree atm. :)

k, I was on my phone last night so couldn't really give you a good run down of Versailles albums ;)

if Noble is your introduction to the band, it's pretty solid but I think they add a bit more variety to their sound on the later albums

Jubilee is a very good follow up, here's one of the standout tracks on the album:

their third album Holy Grail really adds a lot to their sound, and is probably my favourite

and the final self titled is nearly as good

then of course there's the first EP if you're a completist, so why not :D

I think they are technically proficient musicians and they have a very theatrical onstage presence with the costumes but I think I preferred the studio versions of the songs. Or maybe that's just the second album? Is the whole androgynous look a part of their schtick or are they like that off stage too?

I love the live sound, but maybe that's just me? I thought the holy Grail dvd was one of the best live concert dvds I've ever watched.

The whole look is just a thing that's very typical of a lot of "visual kei" Japanese bands, it kinda started with bands like X-japan. It's something very Japanese

Aye, X-Japan seem to spring to mind alright. Had to wiki 'Visual Kei' and it summed it up alright.
Visual kei ("visual style" or "visual system") is a movement among Japanese musicians, that is characterized by the use of make-up, elaborate hair styles and flamboyant costumes, often, but not always, coupled with androgynous aesthetics.

Thought it might have been from Sonata Arctica but theirs is a little different

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test
