SIM Free Blackberry/Blackberry For Meteor?

A friend of mine is wondering if there is anyway she can get a Blackberry Curve or Blackberry Bold without switching from Meteor. Meteor don't sell Blackberrys so her only option really would be to buy a SIM free one or an unlocked one or switch to Vodafone or O2.

As she isn't keen on switching networks, does anyone know of anywhere that sells SIM free Blackberry Curves or Blackberry Bolds? I had a look on the Carphone Warehouse website and they don't seem to sell them..

    Many thanks in advance,
    Kev

    I'd go with eBay.

    Or you could try www.adverts.ie

Or if you're in Dublin there are a couple of decent independent phone shops on Georges Street and Camden Street. There's a few in the downstairs arcade beside Lidl on Moore Street too.

If your friend plans on staying with Meteor, I'd advise against a Blackberry. Additional functionality such as Internet access, MMS and email will not work on Meteor, or any other network that doesn’t support the handset and service, due to the way in which the Blackberry’s configuration settings are managed . Or to put it another way, you'd need to use a BlackBerry handset on a network that supports the handset in order to use the aforementioned services.

Just had a look on eBay and that might be her best bet alright.

Was sort of thinking this too. She might just have to switch networks..

I know this sounds like a stupid question but i will ask anyway. If you have a meteor simcard you can use a blackberry bold as a phone, to txt, use wifi to connect to internet, gps for maps etc? You just cannot use the blackberry apps such as email.

    Does that make any sense?

That's not a stupid question at all. Have a read of my post here, which should explain things a bit better.

    Thanks Rsaeire

The reason I asked is because I really like the Blackberry Bold 9000 and at the moment I am only on Meteor PAYG. I would get the phone if i could use it for calls, txts, media etc and dont really mind about email at the mo.

So hopefully if I do get it, it should work for what I want it to.

I use the bold on O2 for just calls and text/media, I have data service disabled and cancelled data plan on O2 which is 30 euro for the Bold

Thanks John. Just like the look and feel of the bold and cant really afford to go on bill pay at the mo.

So is ebay the best place to buy an unlocked bold because im moving to Dublin next week and one of the first posters said there are some independent phone shops in the city center. That would suit better. Would anyone know if they would have any 9000 bold for sale?

    Thanks for all the replys

    Hi,

I am wondering if I was to buy (private sale) a blackberry Bold phone online, can it work in Ireland. I saw one which is unlocked in the UK. If I buy this phone, can I use a prepaid SIM in the phone (Vodafone), or what is the T&C with this phone/transaction?

    Thanks! :o

What Davy is saying is please refrain from posting the same question in multiple threads.

It leads to confusion. Either stick to the thread you started, or use this one. Don't use both.

Edit: Actually, while I am at it - please don't dig up old threads. It is considered bad etiquette.
