Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I got the Nikon 85mm 1.8 last weekend. Not had a chance to use it yet really. I'm still nowhere near comfortable with it. I'm just not used to its minimum focal length and don't really know how to use it yet to its full potential. This is the first portrait I've really shot with it.

I'd being toying with getting the Canon version, it was only €365 in Belfast 2 weeks ago but alas has gone up.
Only reason I didn't get it was I couldn't quite see how I would justify it having already owning the 50mm 1.4 and the 100mm 2.8.

I assume I'd get it to shine at gigs maybe.

ps you've really captured her eyes, some glow/life from them.

If this is one of your practise shots-can't wait to see your portraits when you get comfortable with it :)

Lovely portrait shot as usual Pete. I would actually love the 85mm f/1.4 but it's not going to happen for a while barring a major win on the lotto.

Thanks everyone. I got lucky before everything went up. I got mine from Greys of Westminster for €281 after shipping and exchange rate...the guy at Greys said they were flying out of the shop lately, like they'd be rediscovered.
I've got the 50mm 1.4 and the 105mm 2.8 as well Janer....I didn't really need it. I just wanted it! I really want to get to a gig and try it out myself. A bit more reach than the 50mm would be nice sometimes.

I was so tempted to get the 1.4 Darren and it's been going thru my head all day. Greys were all out of the 1.4's which was probably a lucky thing for my bank balance!

ouch. Thats a great portrait. I got the 50mm 1.4 recently, It was a toss up between it and that 85mm 1.8. Its definately on the list. But yes, the 85mm 1.4 is definately a beauty :-)

I have seen the Nikkor f1.4 and it looks great but not as much difference as the Canon variety though. Nice portrait too Pete
