"Fingalian is an extinct language, a hybrid of Old English and Old Norse, with Gaelic influences, which was spoken by the people of Fingal until the mid-1800s."

What Earth is this thread about, OP? What's wrong with Meath County Council's administration of east Meath? How do you think that Louth County Council or Fingal County Council would do a better job?

The Lourdes is pretty much reguarded as the worst hospital in Ireland, the trip to navan is well worth it!

No one in the health service can make you go anywhere AFAIK. I never use any of the hospitals in Meath or Louth they are really, really bad. No One in my family will use them again after numerous problems in them- Always go towards Dublin.

In relation to your original post- If you live past Ross Cross to the south of Navan, you may as well forget representaion on the council. A lot of people in Meath think once you past there (roughly Tara) your no longer Meath. I think the same probably happens in your area.

You mention you are a Dub living in Meath? Well I'm forth generation Meath and unfortuantely you have to get used to with this attitude it will never change. :)

    Oh good Lord!
If thats the case, then I envisage Lourdes as being no more than a group of cholera riddled tents in a field of wet mud. Because thats the only thing that could possibly be worse than Navan.

As to the above, never seen a road sweeper, potholes on many a road over here, dog warden who travels all the way and then the dog is gone.Street lighting .Where will I stop. Not saying Louth or Fingal would be better, its just that we over here seem to be forgotten by the powers that be.:mad:

This thread is going all over the place! :D

It sounds like a group of people demonstrating outside a town hall... shouting random jibes at the officials....

"Pot holes"... "hospitals"... "BOO... down with that sort of thing!" Ha Ha! ;)

    RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE! :D

On topic though, do the people of east meath feel left out compared to the rest of the county? I have never heard it before.
I just kind of think the whole county is run crappily.

Just saw this now, and as an East Meather, I find that Meath CC are pretty much non existent. I'm here four years now and never see council workers doing anything in the locality. We pay for our own upkeep of the estate, we pay for our own littler collection and for years there has been the dangerous junction at Colpe Cross, with Meath CC doing nothing about it. It took private enterprise to make the junction safe, but in the same breath Meath CC gave planning permission for Southgate SC to be built, despite the fact that it went against there own planning rules.

I've heard the idea of splitting East Meath off as its got different priorities to the rest of the county. Speaking as someone born and bred in Ashbourne (well, born in the Rotunda but everything else took place here), I've never felt that "Meath"-ish. Navan is further than the GPO, I couldn't name anyone on the football team and the council.......oh Jesus, the council.

Meath CoCo are a bad joke. They have zero interest in maintaining diddly-squate. Not only that, but despite having the second-largest population in the county, Ashbourne is ignored by the council - in favour of Kells and Trim, who have far more public facilities etc. Anything good that's happened for the town was as a result of the private sector. Oh, hang on, they did build a fire station. And 10 years later, built an entrance to it off the main road. Well done lads.

Being in Meath means nothing to me and to be honest, being absorbed into Fingal would be as preferable, if not more so, than an East Meath County Council running the place. Fingal are a far more professional outfit, with much more experience in running local government than any of the clowns in Meath CoCo. As it stands, Fingal surrounds the east of the town, with parts of Ashbourne less than 500m from the border. Plus we don't have the Naaaavan accent, we work, shop and socialise in Dublin, we're barely 20km from town and dammit, Meath is a waste of a county.

No to Navan Rule - the campaign starts here.

p.s. East Meath's capital would be Ashbourne, obviously :D

I can see it now... East Meath break away and becomes its own country...

Instead of going up to Newry for cheap shopping all of us will be going over the boarder to bettystown for cheap 99's with flakes.
