Does using Wireless have much impact on latency?

Just got my new broadband installed and given my o2 dongle a drop kick . I have the white netgear wireless router and I have been using wireless since my phone connection is only wired into my dining room. I am getting pings of around 30 ms to boards, would this be improved by anything noticiable by using standard wired connection?

    Thank
    X

    Ping www.heanet.ie

Unless you have more than 3 WiFi users, or Netgear router is handling a lot of LAN ethernet traffic etc, it only adds about 1ms.

I've seen some routers add 20ms to 50ms on WiFi<-->Intenet when overloaded.

Ping your router or a PC connected via RJ45 ethernet LAN to see WiFi overhead.
Ping your local public IP to see Router + WiFi overhead. (various sites will report your current public IP)

XP only reports to resolution of ms and 1ms minimum. Linux will report smaller latency.

Laptop on WiFi to Wifi (router IP): 96ms, 1ms, 1ms, 1ms
    Laptop WiFi to Server on 1Gbps Ethernet: 2ms, 1ms, 1ms, 1ms
laptop WiFi to my own Public IP (tests WiFi and Router/Firewall): 1ms, 1ms, 1ms, 1ms

    Limerick
    Digiweb Metro.

Bitstream DSL is higher than LLU. > 6MBps Bitstream is higher still (70ms not unusual) due to interleave to reduce intercable/user interference.

Most fixed Wireless a bit higher latency than Metro.

Cable similar or lower than Metro Latency.

    Conclusion

Unlikely to make a difference unless something is "broken"
