    Morning all,

We ahve a new kitten, around 5 months old we think. She can to us from Galway as some ont he Boards had taken her in and they could not keep her due to the existing cat.

Any way, we need to get her to the vet and hace injections ect done and Neutered.

Just wanted to ask usuall costs for the these as our vet has just given a price and I was quite shocked.

Of cource there is no problem in paying as these things need to be done..

    Thanks,

    Pip

Hi, I think it depends on if its a girl or a boy! - the girls are a bit more expensive, I think it cost us about 120 3 years ago to get ours done(girl). after that the vaccinations aint cheap either, just got a booster done with ours and it cost about 60 euro!
While I'm here it is also worth gettinf pet insurance, it has been a life saver for us - really! our cat has been insanely unlucky recently - broken leg in March last year which required surgery and a plate being put into her leg then in September a run-in with a car caused a traumatic hernia she was very lucky to survive. I think the vet bills were a total of 2.5K - no way would we have been able to afford that, luckily we were covered and the total was only a couple of hundred. I really cant recomend enough that you get her insured! - also got her chipped but I'm not convinced that it was worth the money - an extra precaution I suppose!

€60-€80 for the core vaccinations (first shot and the booster 3/4 weeks later). Don't skimp on the vaccinations, they really are essential. Recent research suggests that these core vaccinations are only required every three years so once your cat's had them as a kitten, they'll have a long period of immunity.

Neutering approx. €70-€90 for a boy, add another €20 or so if it's a girl. If the cat is five months old, they can definitely be neutered now so long as they're a healthy body weight. Don't delay on the neutering as you don't want your cat coming into heat (if it's a girl) or beginning to spray in the house (if it's a boy.)

Microchipping costs anywhere from €20-€50, it varies a lot between different vets.

Worm dose should be about €5.

Don't be afraid to shop around! You'll find smaller practices and rural practices that bit cheaper. The bigger, urban practices will have invested in a lot of specialist equipment and will have slightly inflated prices for basic procedures to absorb the cost. You don't have to pay through the nose for standard treatments/care like vaccinations and spay/neuter. I actually use two vets myself. A lovely country vet does basic things for me like spay-neuter, vaccinations, teeth cleaning, wound dressing etc and if one of my dogs were seriously ill or injured I would take them to my vet in town who is a lot more expensive but has a fully-equipped, modern surgery and is considered one of the best veterinary surgeons in the county.

Sorry for not saying thanks before the weekend....

But thanks a million for all who go back to me. Seams that my quote from vet was dine and dandy. Although paying out €220 in January was not in the plan!
    Dam that kitty.
