A wide range of things. Its used more for industrial and commercial uses than domestic, not that it cant be used for domestic. Because it comes in various core amounts, it is good for supplying three phase gear. Also because it is insulated twice has good mechanical protection clipped to surfaces etc.

+1 to all of the above.

It is often used for outside cabling this is beacause NYMJ is resistant to sunlight.

This does not apply to PVC/PVC cable, such as twin and earth (grey outer sheath). This cable bleaches and cracks after prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.

Although it offers a higher degree of mechanical protection than standard PVC/PVC cable NYMJ is not suitable for direct burying, unlike SWA.

With NYMJ the all of the conductors including the circuit protective conductor (earth cable) have the same cross sectional area. This can reduce a circuits earth fault loop impedence.

My understanding of NYMJ is that it cannot be used in direct sunlight. Any idea where to get a spec sheet?

2 meters of 4mm2 should be fine if you have 32A mcb protecting it. it's got like a 45A rating. Long runs in attick insulation are another matter entirely.

    mr ferretone, sparky
    (on mrs ferretone's acc)

Its an old thread you have replied to.

As a matter of interest though, the length of a cable doesnt really have a bearing on its actual current carrying capacity. The length will govern the current it can carry with regards to volt drop at the point of use alright.
