I banned Pighead because his albeit clever parody was an attempt to gloss over what was personal abuse.

As I said on the thread, I couldn't give a flying fuck who he was quoting or what sort of disguise he was putting on it. It was abuse and warrants a ban. That's a fact.

As for those thanking the post, I issued an on thread warning for people to drop and not refer to it in any way again. I did it twice infact. Yet we have people thanking the post after which is basically a two fingered salute to my on thread warning. Cheers for the respect boys.

So if the users of the soccer forum have a problem with a rule they are told to shut up about it and are not allowed discuss it? Respect indeed.

My first reaction on getting the PM was disbelief, and a sure sense that there had been a mistake. I honestly couldn't think of anything I'd done that warranted not just a ban but a removal of rights to post in a forum.

When I saw this feedback thread I realised that although, imho, the punishment far outweighed the crime there was no doubt the crime had been committed. In my defence I will state that I thanked the post for the Saipan reference and before pighead admitted it was personal abuse or Xavi6 put a warning on thread (which I only became aware of after I received the PM and checked this thread). In addition when I log in from work (which I was when I thanked the post) I can't see menu systems or red/yellow cards due to whatever proxy or security they are using.

This is the first time in the 7 or so years I've been posting on this site that I've even been noticed by a mod and again in my opinion I feel that the punishment is a little harsh to say the least. but the rules are there and I albeit completely inadvertently broke them, so unless I'm willing and able to step up and moderate a forum (which I'm not) I have to live with the rules and associated punishments I guess.

I'm not sure whether I'll bother applying for access again, but that's a decision down to me rather than being forced on me by anyone.

they've been discussed ad nauseum - move on - accept your ban and don't encourage people who make stupid comments by thanking them.

You obviously know that I did not. I put my thanks before you issued a warning. Why should I have removed it ? Its not as if you told us to remove it now is it ? You told us to stop and I done what you requested.

We (Xavi and I) discussed the issue with respect to the rules and how another soccer mod had applied them. It had been decided (not be me, I've been away) that thanking abuse is the same as abuse and merits a ban because in our opinon, abuse of another poster is the worst offence in soccer. People ask that we be consistant, Xavi and I PM'd and it was decided that consistancy be applied.

Those initial posters who thanked the post got a week ban.

As for the others, they got their access revoked for purposefully breaking the rules.

There are ways to discuss things, that isn't the way.

The warnings that Xavi posted said nothing about warning people against thanking the post. All they were regards to were people talking about his ban in the thread.

That to me says "don't question the decision in the thread", not "don't thank his post", so I don't really see hows thats really relevant.

Yes they are told to shut up about it on that thread and to stop derailing it.

Isn't that how every forum works?

Oh, and one user who wasn't happy made the effort to PM me straight away and I spoke to him about the decision. If no one else wants to make the effort to do that then there's no tmuch else I can do.

The soccer forum was a mess a few years ago and strict moderation is required to stop it from being shut down again

People go on about the place being no craic, well it was people and their opinion on what craic was (which was basically flaming and trolling) who got the place closed down in the first place

If people don't like the rules don't post there, if people delibertly and knowingly break the rules and then get banned, don't complain about it

Personally I found Pigheads post funny but by the time i saw it there was a red card beside it so I wasn't dumb enough to thank it

Sorry, I certainly didn't intend that to happen. I agree, you mod the forum and you made the correct call. You have to mod as per the charter. My beef is that the rule is stupid and shouldn't be there in the first place. I also know that it was GY who pushed this rule through. She was using one of my posts as an example for her point, and then, of course, didn't reply when I pointed out that a soccer mod had thanked the post she used for her example.

This was the post. I obviously didn't agree with what Archimedes said, I just find his losing of the head rants hilarious, hence the thanking. The fact that i asked her on numerous occasions about the fact that T4TF had also thanked the post (he obviously wouldn't have agreed with it either - I've no doubt his thanks was as ironic as mine - he's since removed his Thanks) and she never addressed it summed it up really. One way street for her. She's always right.

I didn't realise that people had to be spoonfed every piece of information. The charter is meant to have been read by all posters so hardly my fault that thanking a post got people banned.

Well excuse me brother. I sent a PM to GuanYin immediately at about 04:30am last night making my point just after I recieved the ban from GuanYin and I will let you know that I am still awaiting a reply nearly 24hrs later.

You broke a charter rule and ignored a mod warning. Pretty simple case as per the charter.

So how long before someone points out that every time there is a thread about modding on the soccer forum it is just about everyone v GuanYin? I've had no run-ins with her as of yet (no intention to either) but given her to-the-letter, lack of common sense approach to enforcing the rules I am sure it's a matter of time.

Much as I appreciate it must be a pain to mod a forum like Soccer surely it is time for GuanYin to admit that she may be taking a less than optimal approach to her moderation of the forum? While I, for one, would not trade places with her in her role as a moderator but then again I wasn't dumb enough to volunteer.

No actually, I didn't. I was just the one left to deal with the situations that followed.

I do push some rules through as do we all but if a soccer mod disagrees, the rules don't get applied.

Just on a point of note, for those saying I like banning people. one of the rules I pushed through was the points system, which actually makes it twice as hard to get banned from soccer and then for only 6 - 9 months (as opposed to a 5 strikes you're out no matter how trivial the offence). Of course, the more desperate might argue that this just gives me more opportunities to ban people

There's 4 soccer mods so I take it you and Xavi discussed it and then ran it by Dub and T4TF and neither had a problem with it?

I wonder do the other mods feel as passionately about the rules that you put on the OTT for example the cat and puppy dog pics! You were the only one who seemed to take umbrage at that one. You had a personal vendetta against Charlie posting GIFs despite pretty much everyone else reacting favorably to them. You decide you don't like something and then you campaign like you're running for President to get it implemented tbh.

Nothing to do with 'being told'. Boards as a whole doesn't have free speech as it's a privately owned forum.
