    Hi.
I just got my insurance renewal quote from Hibernian and it's gone from 650 up to 700.
    This seems a bit crazy.

This is despite me getting rid of 2 points on my licence in the past year.

    My details:
31 yrs old- driving over 10 years.
Full licence for about 10 years.
    1.5l car.
9 year no claims bonus/no accidents.
    3rd party fire and theft.
Drive no more than 10000 miles/yr.
    Windscreen cover.
    Some NCD protection/step-back thing.
    Breakdown cover.
Got rid of 2 penalty points last year.

    How could it be 700.
Should i stick with them and if not who would be better.

Just want the minimum at this stage:
    3rd party, fire, theft.
    Windscreen cover.
    Breakdown cover.
What should i be looking at- surely under 500?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks.

Don't get me started on car insurance....ok well now u did !

My car insurance was 308 last year and this yr my new quote is 458 !! No accidents no points no nothing, seeminly there's be a lot of payouts the last year and i have to fork out for them !

Anyway cheapest i've got is 352 with http://www.brittoninsurance.com/

Still not impressed that my insurance has gone up by 50 ish quid though.

Should add that i'm driving a 2 ltr diesel with 9 yrs no claims and i'm 35.

    Thanks Zorba.
I'm as baffled as you about this.
How could yours jump 50% with no change in circumstances?

On a separate note, you're driving a 2 litre, i'm driving a 1.5l- how is mine double yours.

Our NCD is the same with no accidents.
Age-wise, we're similar- ie out of the boy-racer bracket.

Even if you factor in my points, it's something like only a 10% loading- 50-100 quid.

Have you the bare minimum 3rd party/F/T or something?
I wanna keep the bare minimum at this stage- just windscreen and breakdown.

Also, brittoninsurance- never heard of them.
    Presumably they're not dodgy? :)

    Thanks.

Thanks but i'm having trouble with the link.
Anyone else recommend anyone for basic 3rd party/F/T (with breakdown/windscreen cover maybe)?

    €700? on a 1.5 with 9 years no claims?

I got my renewal quote today and it's €612 on a 1.3 lancer. I'm 23, male, full license with 1 years no claims, 3rd party, fire, theft, windscreen cover & breakdown cover. (Quinn)

YOU IS BEING RIPPED OF MY FRIEND!

Edit: I'm 24 next week and my insurance get renewed from 12th Feb so that might put my in a new age bracket + I should have 2 years no claims but I missed out on the first year by 16 days :(

    OP just go to www.123.ie.

I'm driving 2 years, 2 years NCB, only have my full license 6 months, driving a 1.4, and i'm only paying 727, compared to you at 700! Thats crazy. Try 123, insure.ie, bestquote.ie.

    Thanks.
Time to tell them go fcuk themselves methinks.
    Might look at Quinn.
That's what i need and should be a lot less for me.

Thing is i wasn't too bothered when it was around 500-550 a couple of years ago but it's being steadily creeping up now.

    OK i'll do that.
BTW i need to renew in a couple of days.
So if i cancel one but don't get around to getting the other in time, would leaving the insurance lapse for a couple of days- while NOT driving the car- be detrimental to getting a quote in future.

It also depends on the county u live in, when i moved to meath my insurance came down think if u live n offaly or some such place your insurance is even cheaper.

Are 123 anything to do with insure.ie ?

Oh and hope there's nothing dodgy about Britton, i do know they've be around a few years though so can't be too bad.

OP- try the Nononsence Ryanair brokers they seem to be good for some people at the moment.
I think for your age groupe and the size of engine that you r driving they should give you very competitive quote.

cheapest quote i got was 350 from www.insure.ie - they brought up all the quotes and you could pick what coverage you wanted and any extras, they sorted everyhting out for me with just a deposit. I was insured in minutes with eagle star.

You will also be entitled to a discount if someone else at your address has a car and insurance, doesnt matter who they are insured with. Think i got 100 quid off

Try Allianz, they gave the best deal for me, after 3 years with Axa who could not match the price this time.

    Your quote seems very high
I drive a 2.5 turbo petrol and fully comp is about €700 and can be got for less.
    I'm 27 with 5 yrs NCB
    Try insure.ie
As for the lapse in insurance it shoud be ok, once your not driving and it's in a sfae place.
