The Galway International Rally 2009 takes place around Co. Galway from Friday 16th to Sunday 18th January. The headquarters will be based in the Clayton Hotel in Ballybrit. The rally covers a wide area of the county, over the three days of the event. Up to 15,000 people are expected to attend each day. * The rally gets underway with a Ceremonial Start in Eyre Square 8pm until approx 9pm. Disruption to traffic is expected to be minimal. * On Saturday, the rally will travel to North Galway, with 9 stages in the Abbeyknockmoy area. The stages will be run 3 times each, with 2 visits to service in Oranmore, Galway city during the day. * Delays are likely on the on the N6/Dublin Rd – particularly at Derrydonnell Cross, N18/Lydican Rd between Carnmore and Oranmore and on the Monivea Rd between Ballybrit and Carnmore. Motorists can also expect extra traffic on the N63 Galway/Roscommon Rd, on the Athenry/Derrydonnell Rd (R348) and on the Tuam/Athenry Rd (R347).

On Sunday, the competitors will complete 8 stages in the South Galway area, around Gort. The winning car and many spectators will return to the finish ramp in Eyre Square on Sunday evening. The finishing ceremony will take place from approx 5pm until 8pm. Delays are likely around Eyre Square during this time. * Delays are likely on the N18 Gort/Oranmore Rd, N18/Lydican Rd between Oranmore and Carnmore and on the Monivea Rd between Carnmore and Ballybrit. Motorists can also expect extra traffic on the N66 Gort/Loughrea Rd, Gort/Corofin Rd (R460) and on the N18 Gort/Ennis Rd. * A number of road closures will be in place along each stage. Gardai will be on point duty but delays are likely. Check out the AA Roadwatch homepage each day for details on road closures.

I might go out a spin tommorrow and go for a look.. Its not the same as it used to be...... Them WRC cars are boring to watch... I will be watching out for the clubmen who will be on the doorhandles for class honours...! I am starting to be a right grumpy old man

    Ahh the old days.......!
