I need to know how to retrospectively put security measures in place on a home wireless network - any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ideally WPA2 with a good long, non-dictionary word key.

get to the router web interface in internet browser...
    usually http://192.168.1.254
or whatever your default gateway is.

find wifi security settings under security or wifi

    set security to wpa
    enter in a pass phrase
    apply the setting

    then rescan for wifi networks

    connect with new passphrase

might be good to have a network cable to connect to the modem if the security locks you out over wifi

Change to WPA-PSK (use password at least 20 chars long) and Mac filtering. Good general security but nothing is 100%.
