Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

SanDisk 8gb SDHC - Help please

    Hey Guys,

I have a very quick question on a SanDisk SDHC card. Purchased just after Christmas from mymemork.co.uk. I am prompted to format the card when I insert the card into my Nikon D80 or my Dell XPS M1330.

I only bought the card as mymemory stated that it was compatilble with the D80. I also understand that the card should be compatible with the laptop although I stand corrected on that.

Is this a faulty card or is it the case that I will have to purchase a card reader which reads SDHC cards?

Well if you have nothing on the card, format it in the laptop and then the D80,that should work?

I am not quite sure of what you have done.

Have you Formatted the Card in the D80?

You should have got a SDHC card reader free with the card, no?

I was told to format memory card in camera.
Edit: My TECHNIKA card reader from TESCO for a tenner works nicely with SanDisk Extreme IV 8GB (Christmas present).

mind you, some PC readers (USB or built in) won't read any 8gb SDHC card
I have a "good" one, sandisk 12-in-1 and it doesn't, but it does reads an 8gb compact flash or 4gb or smaller SDHC or SD cards
    try a different reader
    camera is best to format

Does the D80 format other cards?

Does the card have the protect tab set to allow it to write?

if it doesn't have a tab and it keeps saying it's write protected, get it returned, same happened to my mother and the card was faulty

Forget the laptop, the camera should be able to format it and this review (last updated in 2006) says the D80 was one of the first devices to support SDHC. The D80 manual also says that SDHC is supported.

A quick test would be to get someone with a similar camera to attempt to format the card. A lot of those cheap PC memory card readers are crap, I have one I bought in Lidl and it only works some of the time, the device itself is the true test.

Edit: Sandisk also say that the D80 supports SDHC...
