Currently running my condenser boiler at 1bar water pressure when cold. This increases up to 1.75bar when hot. Is this the optimal pressure for the system. Boiler is a Ideal icos.

I set water pressure when cold to 1.5 bar, this is to allow for a little pressure loss, as most boilers shut themselves down if pressure drops below .8bar, the pressure gauge is only there to indicate sufficient water in boiler and system, it has no real impact on a boilers performance. Gary

Regarding problem, this is due to expansion vessel on boiler being set incorrectly. Ask service guy to check it on next service. If pressure continues to rise then call out service mas. Just make sure he a registered gas installer (RGI).

I would say those pressures are fairly normal. As long as the pressure is not dropping below 1 bar and needing regular top-ups it's fine.

Some pressure rise is normal and indeed unavoidable when the system heats up. The amount of the pressure increase depends on the overall volume of water in the heating system, the capacity of the expansion vessel, and its the initial charge pressure. As long as the pressure rise does not bring the system close to it's maximum operating pressure then there is no problem. 1.75 bar is fine.

If the boiler pressure is 1 bar cold, the the expansion vessel should be preset to just less then this, say 0.9 bar. To check the air pressure in the expansion vessel you need to remove the influence of the water pressure acting on it, so depending on the system you may need to isolate and depressurise the boiler, or if its a stand alone vessel find a way to isolate it, hopefully without having to drain the system.

We have some issues regarding pressure drop, etc. with our condensing boiler also:

We had a Vaillant Ecotec 618 gas condensing boiler installed end of last year.

:mad:The pressure has dropped a few times to 0.5bar or lower, so that the boiler did not fire/ not work. No leaks are visual .
We had to manually increase this a few times to 1.5bar to get pressure up.

:mad:We also noticed that the drain pipe has not been connected to the drain, so that drain water is running down the wall on the outside (acidic water!), as we unfortunatly presumed the plumber knows how to install the boiler we only read the installation manual when we noticed the brown stain on the new white wall.

:mad:We were also advised to install a pump to pressurise the system. This pump is very loud and has started to turn on every 25min for 2 seconds without any water being used.

Anybody any idea how to find out if this pump is even necessary or is just using electicity and annoying us (too loud)?

Too many questions not enough answers!:)
